Afghanistan’s new man with a better plan

    March 9, 2014
    In the News
Globe Editorial: The spectacle of Afghan politics is like a carousel: The same cast of characters spins in circles, going nowhere. But after next month’s presidential election, things could be different.
Hamid Karzai is finally stepping down, constitutionally banned from seeking a third term. Vying to succeed him are nearly a dozen candidates, ranging from warlords to tribal leaders to politicians in the pocket of the Karzai clan. And then there is Ashraf Ghani.
In 2009, he finished close to dead last in the race for Afghan president, with just 3 per cent of the vote. This time, things are different. Mr. Ghani is polling ahead of most of the pack. With less than a month to go before the ballot, his main rival is the former foreign minister, Abdullah Abdullah. For the good of Afghanistan, Mr. Ghani should win.
It’s not just that Mr. Ghani has literally written the book on how his country can be saved from ruin. An academic who left the country just before the Soviet invasion, he has spent much of his life researching state-building at Columbia, Berkeley and Johns Hopkins, followed by a stint at the World Bank. When he returned to Afghanistan in 2002 he devoted himself to putting those ideas into practice, serving as the country’s finance minister and advising the United Nations on the best ways to empower Afghans – including women and the poor – to shape their own future.
Mr. Ghani is an educated idealist, but he is not an innocent. His running mate is General Abdul Rashid Dostum, a prominent warlord. He recognizes the pull of tribal loyalties, but also aims to harness and limit them. He believes in investing in energy production, linking food producers to international markets, and rooting out corruption. Coming from anyone else, these promises sound like pie in the sky. But Mr. Ghani has the intellect and the experience to give them a fighting chance.
Four years ago, Afghan voters chose Mr. Karzai. The country is still paying the price. American intelligence assessments predict a future where the Taliban wields even more influence than it does today. Mr. Karzai is not the only one to blame, but he leaves behind a disappointing legacy. Mr. Ghani’s appeal to voters, including the country’s huge diaspora, is gaining traction. His vision is hopeful and pragmatic. He’s Afghanistan’s best shot at a second chance.

I don't trust parasites that has connection with Anglo-Jewish world bank/IMF or FED. If he brings, us to the western bank globalization system, it will end up ruin the whole Afghan country selling it to foreigners like we see today in Greece, etc or even worse will in debt whole future generations like US slaves with 19 trillions of dollar of debt, who they can't even pay. Will end up being slaves of rich Arabs/jews, Chinese men, Indian Men, Russians billionaires etc. Don't let me start with the culture destruction it will cause on Afghan/Pashtun society. But I am no future teller, we will see Inshallah what will happen. In the end, western banks are against Islam, with interest rate etc. so I hope they get banned and those working for them strip of their wealth and tossed to the street.

I say, Afghanistan should get a man connections with the new strong stability group of countries called BRICS. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa. They will start a new stable bank, not like the western bank, that is on edge of collapse. Western people live on debt, if you want Afghanistan future generations and that maybe your kids as well live of loans and slave to pay up debts or maybe ending up selling the whole country. You can vote for him. If he is truly an "Afghan" guy, he will play like Putin did, and in the end, jail all corrupts warlords/oligarchs.
To Paradise, with Pakhto, I will go.

Ghani is supported by british owned sections of the American government like certain agencies from the CIA and of course directly from UK. This article is just written by an old friend of Ghani. It´s just pure propaganda, nothing else. If you take a look on his team and those who supports them you will soon understand that his entire team is made up of Pashtun chauvinists like Ismail Yun, Taqat, Tawab, Aziz Royesh, Sarwar Danesh and many more. These people are very strong tribal-concentrated. In Kabul there are rumors that Ghani promised Dostum and Junbish the economic knot of the north, Balkh province and Takhar while Hazaras are promised Sari Pul. Of course these promises are just politic games. Once Ghani win the election he will hunt Dostum and all Wahdatis and settle many nomads from south on their lands. Ghani is rightfully considered as a fascist. He is clever, playing the game his british masters played. Therefore we fear him the most in the south and in Kabul. He is also going to endorse a deadly competition between us and Ghalzis. He has close ties to Ghalzi Taliban commanders. For those Taliban insurgents in Pakistan and Al-Qaida forces who are in support of Taliban and Haqqanis belonging to his branch, he wants an open border between Pakistan and Afghanistan like he explained during his seminar about state-building. He compare Afghanistan-Pakistan with France-Germany.

these elections are meaningless and illegal due to the US/NATO war/presence. In any case, Karzai will rig the 'election' and Rassoul will win. US wants Abdullah or Ghani to 'win.'

Ghani is just trying to use dostom and the hazaras to balance Tajik power in the north, he will not hunt them down, he needs them just like Karzai needed them. He will continue Karzai politics.

It seems as though there are two opinions from the US side on who they should be put in the presidential chair. Abdullahx2 and Ghani.
Ghani would probably serve US interests better since he would be the Pashtun face and all Abdullah would do is unite Pashtun nationalists, mullahs and others against Tajiks and Abdullah does not have the charm or the intellect to balance Pashtuns with other groups.

So Ghani would probably prevail not because the Afghans want him but because the US will choose him. If the referendum in Crimea is meaningless under Russian guns then so is the election in Afghanistan meaningless under US guns.

While a sham, the 'election' is really a competition between who can outrig the other.

Last time, the US/NATO wanted Abdullah 2 to win. This time the US/NATO want Abdullah or Ghani to win.

I do not understand if US is that much influential then how Abdullah did not win last time if US wanted him.
