Yeah right, the Gulf arab uses there tribes as mere indentification, it is like your last name, its totaly difrent from how they used to be and how Afghans tribel system is now. You can't compare that to each other.

I am not against tribal identity. Tribes are like flowers of different colors on the tree of Pashtuns and Pashtunwali. Tribes are like arms of the one body of Pashtuns.

Gone are the days of tribal rivalries. Now what matter is being Pashtun and then having a tribe is your further detail of identity. It is like different names of the brothers and sisters of one family.

However I am for reforming tribal justice and social system on modern lines with modern education and democracy, individual human rights and abolishing customs like walwar, swara, child marriages, selling of daughters and punishing the whole tribe or family for the crime of an individual.

What's your point? Pashtuns also carry their tribe name as last name as an identification that they are pashtun. It's true that a lot of pashtuns are backwards in Afghanistan but that's because of the lack of education. Instead of blaming Islam and tribalism for the state pashtuns are in now you should be blaming the lack of education and stubbornness.

Btw some tribes in SA are so strict, they don't even consider marrying arabs from other tribes.

Most Saudis marry from amongst their own tribe.

Many if not most tribal people in the world will only marry from their own tribe.

I am indifferent to people doing it and it is up to them.

Rich westerners will only marry someone from a certain background, aristocrats will only marry someone from an aristocratic lineage.

Some people in some countries will only marry someone from their village or locality, so someone marrying exclusively from their village of 5,000 is more exclusive than someone marrying from a tribe of 1/2 a million or more e.g. some of the Arab and Pashtun tribes.

That's not the case with Pashtuns anymore though, take my family for example, my dad is from one tribe, and my mother is from a completly different tribe. Most Pashtuns are not hesitant at all to marry into different tribes because as long as your Pashtun that's all that matters. Some Pashtuns in the deep south will marry withen themselves though.

The point is that the tribal system of Arabs and other peopel is difrent from that of Afghanistan. Arabs of the Gulf have established a strong goverment( you can call it not-Islmaic or what not, but you can't deny that is strong and have much more power than the individual tribe) where all the tribes folow the same rules of the central goverment, and in Afghanistan that is not the case, one tribe does what it likes and don't want a central strong goverment. And the goverment does not want a strong tribal system, they both make each other weaker, and what you get is a chaotic society where extrem groups like taliban can take a strong hold. That's the difrence.
