Currently, Dr. Rubin is the Senior Adviser to the Special Representative of the President for Afghanistan and Pakistan in the U.S. Department of State. In November-December 2001 Rubin served as special advisor to the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General for Afghanistan, during the negotiations that produced the Bonn Agreement. He advised the United Nations on the drafting of the constitution of Afghanistan, the Afghanistan Compact, and the Afghanistan National Development Strategy.

Not quite, he says they weren't created by Pakistan but that they're under the manipulation of the ISI, not exactly independent.

As for not being created, In a way he's right, I'd argue they were created by CIA books from University of Nebraska Publishing. The Taliban ideology is something the U.S. orchestrated.

you need to read his latest articles and books. He is more convinced that the taliban movement is independent now than he was during that interview.

                    defending his nation alright

                    bahahaha

Mr. Rahmatullah now sincerely regrets serving as a high Taliban official and has rejected their hatred of the West.

He does say that some of his views have changed. "I was very young then," Mr. Rahmatullah, now 27, told the Yale Daily News last week. "At that age, you don't really have the same sensibilities that you may have later." He has told fellow students he now believes in free speech and the right of women to vote. He told the New York Times the Taliban were bad for his country because "the radicals were taking over and doing crazy stuff," implying that the early days of Taliban rule were benign. He says he believes that after graduation, he can serve as a bridge between the Muslim world and the West.

it wasn't like the professor was using some tricky mind boggling craft against him, all he did was relay factual info which S..R.H caved into.

don't pussy around this with excuses, be a man than a typical coward.

i don't see how he 'got owned'. scimitar, you are not giving credit when it is due. he spoke well and seemed sincere.
to the best of his knowledge, at that point in time, he appeared to me to be doing what he thought was best.

He got owned because everything he was saying, all the excuses he was making was torn asunder by the other guy.

and he was left babbling and mindlessly repeating the same statement over and over again.

sometimes doing our best isn't good enough and if this was his best, he missed the mark

i thought you said you also, once supported the taliban,
you are looking through your extreme prejudice. he didn't look so befuddled to my eyes.
you seem to forget where he is coming from. he was not reared as some yuppie american with your education.
