there is no khans in the hillside^^ in some areas there even more than one khan, even 2 or 3 khans in the same village from the same tribe/khel. in the hillside I mean.Originally posted by khushal View PostIt is impossible for the hillside to have "Khans." You need alot of flatland to have Khans that is why we in the hillside have Mashers.
but what about maleks? in the hillside. do you have malekan?Afghanistan Analyst Bibliography 2011

First define what you mean by "Khan" because I think we differ on the definition. We call rich people with alot of land as "khans." These people dont exist in the hills because there is very little arable land, it is mostly hills or mountains. The land in the hills are divided up by the male members of the village. Each male member owns land and the land is inherited through the paternal parent. The plains on the other hand have lots of arable land and large landowners are possible.Originally posted by Darweshkhel View Postthere is no khans in the hillside^^ in some areas there even more than one khan, even 2 or 3 khans in the same village from the same tribe/khel. in the hillside I mean.

We define Masher as a person that is looked up to because of wisdom, fairness, and courage. This person usually resolves diputes and the people look at him for direction and he tries to keep the village united for the villages interests and against common threats to the village. This person does not inhereit his title through lineage and the people could replace him at will if he upsets a considerable amount of people. You could have many Mashers in a village. Sometimes a village is so divided that each family in the village considers someone from their own family as the Masher.
Maluks are represenatives. The village sends maluks to neighboring villages or a jirga to voice the opinion of the village.
Ever since the flood of weapons to the pashtun region starting in the 80's, adn recently the flood of cash, the social structure has slowly broke down. People dont respect Mashers anymore like they did in the past. Power shifted from the wise to the arrogant with guns and money.

you are very wrong and your accusations dont have any tangeable evidence.Originally posted by Darweshkhel View Postcome on man, you cant be serious. taleban burn schools my brother, a proxy that is being controlled und harbored by a foe, an inveterate enemy and its major political goal is to keep AFG on its knees so we aint able to take Pashtunkhwa back. you cant ignore that.
they want to ban books so we cant get access to information, wont be able to read or write until we never care for nothing. our children will never get an education, they wont be doctors or ingeneers, they will all be mullas. they punish our women but in pashtunwali its our namus, they keep the region unsafe so we cant have access to medicine, they say its not islamic to visit doctors. they want to teach us about Islam now but its mahmud ghaznawi and loy ahmad baba who were ghaziyan and spread Islam amongst them when they were hindus. they want to control our children and raise them the way THEY want. what else? they burn our watan, da de mong khawra da, da ba mo satu. nikagan mo shahidan wu, pa sro wino da watan ye di satali, da dey warta loy peighor. mashum dunya bande laka naway gul dey gulistan ki. ka palel de baghwan ne wi, dey ba wi khodruya. ka awlad be tarbiya si, da tor dagh par plar ao mor dey. We got the title Khan when my great gradfather and his brothers were fighting the british empire in Afghanistan and in Pukhtunkhwa.Originally posted by khushal View PostFirst define what you mean by "Khan" because I think we differ on the definition. we very considerably rich and owned land before that ,so to us getting the title has to with defending the country.
we had many ups and downs but our Khan title has stayed intact and people treated us as such even when we were miserably poor or very rich.
yes we have tons of meshran, actually every elderly person is a mashar of his family and many of these mashran would come together in hujra and have a chitchat etc and when there is a problem they would try to find a solution.
than we have tribal elder(Qawm Mashar) which is selected by all of the other mashran and that person doesnt per se have to be old.
Qawm mashar represents the qawmuna at a qawmi jirga among different tribes or subtribes of different villages.
we dont know any malakan, never heard of it except in pukhtunkhwa.
i guess it means landowners.
