didn't you read what khushal just wrote? that the taliban were changing the rules of pashtunwali.
      why every five years?

The problem is that even if America or China or USSR would have come with good intentions seing destruction and problems, in the way these governments are organized they are to weak and their good intentions can be easily used from inside. With weak I do not mean the military power but weak in their view.

Not understanding the background of another peoples problems such initiatives wold always go bad, as pople try to resolve problems out of their view, but not out of the locals view. The non-solution of such poblems mostly brings such programs in the light of the war and crueties against civilians. And many other factors join - state interventions are used "full programm" by the dark scene of the untrouthfull.

Dear faye , I do not know about the Talibs, but I know out of my own peoples history - that rules of society can be changed slowly. But problems inside the society should be first realized by the society itself - yoou cannot force a thing even if it is the best without understanding. Pashtunwali itself surely developed throughout history, and is a result of long years - like any national culture it is the mirror of the Pashtuns soul and history - it is the mirror of how Pashtun society formed and which problems it met on the ways of time. Abolishing it , earasing it means earasing the memory of the people, destroying everything - and even if you than come and bring to the people other good laws - the result will be catastrophic. Changes can come only from inside, and even if ones culture has lacks and problems, they should be evident from inside and should be resolved from inside - there is in my eyes no eed destroying the whole national experience as something "obsolite" and cutting the peoples roots, even if Pashtunwali would be imperfect, Pashtuns are for sure able to make it more perfect.

About the five years was symbolical - it can be a bit less or more.

i never said one should force changes. so why are you preaching to me about that?

khushal doesn't mention though, whether the pashtuns and other afghans LIKED having these changes made by force, by the taliban.

I am not preaching to You, neither I refered to Your posting, I simply clarified what I meant as You adressed me. I asked mre RTR, to understand his view. So please dear Faye do not feel attacked by my words.

About the words of Khushal - I think we both havn't too much knowledge on the situation to really understand everything, I do not know about Khushal, as I do not know his age and his life. To me however it didn't seem that Khushal is trying to defend Talibs under all costs, his approach seems to me quiet balanced and reflecting.

Again excuse me - but I didn't say to you that you said "something shuld be forced" - I tried to answer your posting. Hope we won't missunderstand eachother!

i am anti war. full stop.
i am aware of khushals previous position on the taliban, so i deal with him on his overall view on the 'nature' of reality.
you have no need to be defending khushal, dear.

Dear faye, what position do You mean?
I do not defend Khushal, I saw also no point to defend anything dear Faye. You were discussing, I participated with some questions. I am far of these debates that sometimes happen here to show "This is right and all is wrong"..

I think You noticed that too.

not changing, preventing the harshness. you prevent that when you give justice to people.

oh, so 'preventing' is not 'changing'. as long as it's 'natural' we can rest easy.

There was no resistance from the pashtuns since it was not forced but there was in the northern areas by hazara/uzbek/tajik factions. Their rejection was the result of centuries of pashtun domination over them although the pashtun/tajik rivalries have never been bloody on the contrary the pashtun/hazara and tajik/hazara rivalries have always been bloody through history and this one was no different.

how do you prevent people from taking the law into their hands when wrong is being done. you give them justice.
