Dear friend, I suppose that this issue is much more serious to You than to the West.
The west cares less and sees generally the region as a place of profit. News like these are simply used for political reasons. You on the other hand have Your home there, and in whose interest if not in Yours is a stble situation, to have a strong motherland not t be used as battlefield of otherones interests?
Also look that boundaries, specially in Your home do not correspond the netions and are used quiet good to keep tansions on all of You.
The "divide et impera" formula has its sad verification in the whole region. 100eds of conflicts can be created out of nothing.
To care for the people has in this case nothing to do with being westernize or not!
Take care that such a way of thinking could target anybody of us and it is really a pitty that inner problems that seem to be resolvible in a completely different way take all the power of your pople that could be used to get stronger and protect yourself from outern enemies.
I am really sorry about this

take also in consideration that a person is not obviously what he declares to be. If people continue thinking with labels "sunni", "shia"... how will they develop? How will they be strong in their fait blinded by this labels and not seing the disbelief of some who declare themselves coherent to the lables?
If such a situation really exists as you described, you should be the first to find a way of change from inner. One should be able to see his errors and change them before others see them and take use of them..

obviously no shia would be stupid enough to insult sunni beliefs in these areas.
As we see these "socalled-Sunni radicals" most of the pakistani and iranian shias are aswell such radicals, they are being radicalized by their leaders to kill, abuse, torture, insult, they would have killed any Sunni if they have the chance to.

Translation : People ask for fatawaa to kill any Sunni, fatawaa is present by ++++++ because every Sunni is wahabi and every wahabi is dirty, kill them ....

-my intention was not to justify this attack, just shading some light on radicals on both side.

arevapasht, news like this is the same as news about slaughter of a mass of school kids in america. it is abhorrent.
some may use it for political purposes but it makes headlines, like all other incidents of such barbarity, because it is such.

Both sides do this killing and it has been going on for centuries. It has nothing to do with what some Shia or some Sunni says about the prophet or Islam. It has more to do with alliances. The Shias in Kurrum and the other places are allied with the Pakistani government against the TTP. Recently the TTP and the Turi tribe have agreed to a peace deal. It appears that some factions with in the TTP or some other party are not happy with the peace.
The peace deal has allowed free movement of the Taliban into Paktya, Khost, and paktika provence. White Taliban flags have been raised all over on the Afghan side which were not there before.
The Turi/TTP peace deal, which was brokered by the Haqqanis and some say the Pakistani government, is creating problems for the Afghan government.

That you can reread it....this is it

All you're saying is that because of the TTP ; sunni civilians are now in danger.

This does nothing to excuse or explain or justify suchjactions,

Both Sunni and Shia civilians are in danger because of the US occupation. This age old rivalry erupted right after the US occupation. It also erupted right after the Soviet invasion.

FYI since you beleive that it is Taliban policy to target Shias, Kurrum was peacefull during Taliban rule of Afghansitan.

no fallacy and no sidetracking, I was responding to Randolph who beleives that there are no attacks by shias against sunnis.

In the big picture, the rivalry is used by big powers for their own interests(Taliban, Afghan governmnet, Pakistan governmnet, Iran, India, and NAto).

You're trying to SWAY focus ...BIG time ......Sunnis are now in danger because of the possibility of Shi'a retaliation for TTP actions.
