but Pata Khizana isn't that old, it was actually written later on; even though the writer attributes it to Mohammad Hotak.

I think we can say that Pata Khazana is old. Pashto doesn't have too many old written texts. Or maybe I don't know them.

well depends, I think it was Abdul Hai Habibi who introduced it; but he has never given his source material to prove its authenticity.

(Pashto: پټه خزانه – "Hidden Treasure", alternative transcriptions: Peta Khazāna, Pota Khazana, Pata Xazāna) is a Pashto language manuscript[1] claimed to be first compiled during the Hotaki dynasty (1709-1738) in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In 1944, Abdul Hai Habibi, a prominent Afghan scholar from Kandahar, made his first claim about discovering an 1886 hand-written copy of this manuscript in his first edition book Pata Khazana.[2][3] According to Habibi, the script contains an anthology of Pashto poetry, which precedes the earliest known pieces of Pashto literature by a couple of hundred years.[4] The claimed discovery of the script caused some controversy about its genuineness since 1968 and some leading scholars of Iranology consider it a 20th century forgery.[2] In 1997, Khushal Habibi translated Pata Khazana into the English language by naming it the Hidden Treasure.[3

I heard about it from written/spoken sources. In fact it is not important for me when it was really written down and who discovered it. For me it's a testimony of Pashto language. Even if Habibi was the first one who wrote down all stories, he did it in Pashto language which was used in oral tradition and was commonly understandable.
The fact that Pata Khazana contains Pashto words which are not longer in use makes it more interesting and precious for me.
BTW, when you read the poem about Amir Kror in Pashto can you understand all words?

I believe in the Pata Khazana.

Foreigners tend to discredit its historical value just to cut our literary heritage short.

Historical value is another story. I think that the stories could be real.

I was talking about how they think its not that old.
