    I'm sorry but it's an audacity to even dare to compare the beautiful name of Kunar to something as ridiculous as NWFP.
    It is not our fault that we at least have history unlike Pakistan who names their provinces by points on the compass.

    Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
    Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
    Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan

      What Jodigul said was out of ignorance. However, NWFP (now khyber pakhtunkhwa) does have a history. If you have read Afghan history, you would know that. This same nwfp gave Afghanistan people like Khushal Baba, Rahman Baba, Umrah khan "Afghan Napoelean", etc.

      Pakistan didn't name them, the British did, after Pashtunkhwa was sold/leased to britain by Emir Abdur rahman.

        Hahaha dear you are so right. In a discussion thread on a pakistani forum a person suggested in a thread about the name change that all provinces should be renamed as:
        "Sind = Southern Province
        Pubjab = Eastern Province
        Baluch = Western Province
        NWFP = Northern Province"

        Btw the pakistanis are not happy about the change.
        “Pakistan, which plays a key role in Asia, is so famous for treachery that it is said they can get milk from a bull. They have two tongues in one mouth, and two faces on one head so they can speak everybody’s language; they use everybody, deceive everybody.

          Exactly my point, wrora =) All the history Pakistan has is Afghan history. The country is barely a few decades old - what kind of history of its own could it possibly have?

            I know that, but that doesn't mean we should divide each other up. Pashtunkhwa history is that of Afghanistans. Obviously the state of pakistan and its ideaologues have a hard time justifying it, since it is only 60 years old. It doesn't, but the NWFP thing was more to do with dividing up afghanistan and carving it into several territories. One part was truncated afghanistan, then NWFP, then the states of swat, dir, amb and chitral, British balochistan (which was all pashtun, except for marri tribal area) and FATA. Look how they split us up, into these names.

              Personally, I am more about unity than anything. I want my fellow Pashtuns and my fellow Afghans to be united. But it bothers me to see that some people on here seem to have sold their souls to Pakistan. They don't even consider themselves Afghan but yet they try to do politics on Afghanistan.
              There are people on here who call themselves proud Pakistanis.. this is what their fiftna has brought us to, wrora. Not even Pashtuns in America call themselves American.. but some of the Pashtuns in Pakistan have lost it.

                Well you have to go a school in Pakistan and you will see how it works there. From childhood their life starts with it and ends with that. We were not taught our history in those schools. However the culture and everything is intact. Remember Mayana Pashtunkhwa makes 15 % of the population of Pakistan, and we are further divided into 4 parts. It is not that easy to rebuild like that. Wakhth aakhlee. About the fitna, well Pashtuns on both sides have to bear that burden...they both did well to sell their pashto out the door for some quick bucks. We can't blame one area for it.

                  I see how Pakistan is trying to divide the Pashtuns and through that is trying to keep them harmless by doing that.
                  Just kinda sad that some Pashtuns are giving in, don't you think?

                    It is sad, but that is life. You will always have parts of a society that are assimilated in others (different forces push this-> economic needs, etc), and sometimes it is the other way around. I mean go to pashtunkhwa, you will see a lot of non-pashtuns speaking pashto fluently, and sometimes identify as Pashtuns. So it is not as black and white. Inshallah if Pashtunkhwa gets into one unit, and then we can get full provincial autonomy, then a lot can be done.

                              One thing that worries me about all of you rorian khorian is, you needlessly quarrel.

                              Let me clarify the whole thing for you guys.

                              1) Jodigul said: The word Kunar should be renamed because it sounds very similar to the curse/abuse word for Anus in Pushto.

                              2) This is further clarified by Master khan, here:

                              Originally posted by Master Khan View Post

                              but its Kunar, I think its fine.
                              3) The problem is this:

                              For Afghanisrani Pushtuns the word as Koonarh with the last Rhey sound as prominent and strong is common usage.

                              For Pakistani Pushtuns, especially if you dont use it so often, because of the accent and less usage, you get the feeling as if you are saying it like if you were saying Anus in Pushto.

                              This my good people is the whole reason of the thread, which BLS and Kunar1990 have already clarified, therefore it is settled.

                              Bottm line: To avoid making Koonarh sound like the curse word, use the Rhey strongly and also use a double o like oo. So it becomes:

                              Koonarh or
                              کونړ

                                With Afghan Pushtuns , YES

                                and hopefully due to this thread, now fine with Pakistani Pushtuns as well.

                                personally, I have now started using the OO & Rh parts with more stress.

                                It no longer sounds any way near to what I felt before.

                                So, thanx to Jodigul, Tor Khan, Kunar1990/Kunarboy, BLS and all of you.

                                Thanx.
