  • Imran Khan

    Salamuna.

    To whom it may concern,

Please educate me on Imran Khan. For now, I have two questions.

1)How is he different than any other Pakistani president? Is all this drama just to secure some votes?

2)It's obvious that one would need ISI's approval to become the president, knowing this, how can his policies be any different? We all know ISI is a formidable opponent to any policy which it doesn't find reasonable. As of now, things haven't changed much, what makes us think he will bring a change?

Some humble questions, do share your thoughts and comments.

    Manana.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

It is not a drama. ISI and some other forces really wants to bring him as everyone is sick of the other corrupt politicians. Till now, imran has got no stain on his character. But most probably he will become like others as soon as he gets some important positiont in the govt.
If he makes a govt he will make a coalition govt with all the sold members from different parties, mqm will join him, pmlq will join, musharraf may join him and some other isi backed parties join him.
At the moment he is a big threat for the vote bank of Nawaz sharif and his speeches are mostly against Nawaz sharif as isi don't like Nawaz any more.
If imran comes in power with authority, definitely there will be a change a social, economic changes... i don't think any foreign policy will be changes also. because foreign policy is made in ghq. but some other changes will come.

@ #1 Well we dont know because he isn't the president yet..CAN he become a president ? anybody's guess mate.

@ #2 I dont think his foreign policy would be that different vis-a-vis Afghanistan and India..if anything his anti-US sentiments will probably be in line with the army's..now his domestic & economic policy I expect it to be very different since he has a lot of technocrats among his ranks and if you've seen most of the time in military regimes the dictatorship tried to run the country on technocracy
It's enough that I know, Our time had a home, In your heart..Was a place..But the glass always breaks..

actually, there will be a definite change in foreign policy as he has stated he will end Pakistan's support for the US war and occupation of Afghanistan, and he also wants Afghanistan and the region free from the US occupation. Mk Bhadrakumar notes this well.

Khan winds down the Afghan war - Indian Punchline

"Khan said he wants to be friendly toward the US and so he would like to help them gracefully withdraw their troops from Afghanistan and leave the region. "

What I meant by point 1 is:

How will his policies be any different when compared to previous presidents? What makes you believe that it will be different?

Pakistan is known to criticize the USA in the media, but behind closed rooms it's a completely different story.

          Talal,
Thanks for being honest about the 2nd point of yours. That's what I had thought as well.

emkhan is only telling part of the truth

ISI and Army want to bring in Imran Khan as it is they who are sick of Zardari & Co, especially because of the memogate scandal, where Zardari was found to have secretly requested the help of the US govt in deterring the Pak military from launching a coup against him in the wake of the raid that killed Bin Laden.

The timing of Imran Khan's rise is very obvious. Nawaz Sharif and his brother are the strongest politicians in Punjab, but Pak Army doesn't want them back, because they have misgivings against the army due to the military coup against them by Musharraf.

So army has run out of people it can trust. It has soured relations with PML-N, and now relations with Zardari's govt have soured. So now the army has to go for Imran Khan as their last resort. But relations with him too will sour before long, since Imran Khan is an impetuous maverick who won't be a quiet stooge of the army. His headstrong personality and his loud style mean that the army will have a hard time controlling him, and so they'll likely have to assassinate him at some point, to get him out of the Prime Minister's seat.

And when that happens, someone will appear on this forum to tell us all that Imran Khan had an unfortunate accident when he "slipped and fell in the shower, and broke his neck"

It seems you have understanding of Pakistani politics and likes and dislikes of isi. True that isi has lost his support from the major parties. and pmln is even in battle with isi. isi is now looking for a new guy because isi can't trust these pppp, mqm anp like parties and people.
imran party is a one man show means it has not strong base in pakistani politics thats why it will not be able to pursue its manifesto.
You may have heard his speeches a year ago and now. Now compare. He has been such outspoken against mqm but gradually his tongue melt down. He rarely speaks against zardari and pppp. His statements against america have come to minimum. It means that he is not a stable person. He will change like other politicians. He talks about bringing revolution. Only a stable and strong person can bring revolution and he lacks these two qualities.

Wishful speculation on your part Sanman

Imran Khan has been calling for the end of Pakistans support for the US war and occupation of Afghanistan for the past 7 years

                His positions have remained unchanged

What's different is that he has a clean record without corruption

His recent Continued pressur to stop all support for the US war and occupation has pretty much finalized it

Furthermore these objectives are nsync with what the vast majority of people want

Bhutto was removed from power after she promised further PaK support for the US war

It is unclear who was behind her death

PakjabiPrince, your Imran Khan has been getting barely 1% of the vote all these years. Only when Zardari and Nawaz have fallen out of the ISI's graces, then suddenly Imran Khan is being brought forward as a candidate. He is the ISI's latest blue-eyed boy. And if Imran Khan was not around, then his dog would be brought forth as a candidate, because ISI is desperate to put someone in power who is their stooge.

Unknownprince, I was also supporting imran a two years ago as he was independent but now he has gone in isi's hands and you know that whoever goes into isi's hands never remains an independent person. I personally believe that isi is the least trustworthy group on this planet. I will never trust on isi worker even if he is my own brother then how can I trust imran.

the only good thing i like about Imran is that his party isnt based on ethnicity politics..he's got members from all the provinces and if he gets even a half decent response in all four provinces..he's in

And especially if what people are saying is infact true i.e. ISI really is behind him then expect landslides in some constituencies
