In the time of Zahir Shah there was hardly any pashto on TV or in schools. I have listened to the interview of the Afghan education minister and he said he will make a plan where books are taught in pashto in pashtun dominated areas and dari will only taught as a language like english. The same will happen in farsiwan dominated areas where pashto will be taught as a language and all the books will be in Dari. This is a great initiative and all children should be able to learn in their mother tongue.
These things are all symbolic. The plan to bring pashto into Kabul schools was started by Hanif Atmar in 2007 and the plan failed because when they opened up Pashto classes for the Pashtuns, no one attended those classes and they were empty. Our own Pashtuns would go and attend Dari classes.

We are happy because we have two-three TVs in Pashto. Lemar first of all is a pro-iranian tv owned by Tajiks. The same Tajiks who own lemar own Tolo which spreads anti pashtun propaganda and they own Farsi1 TV which is a TV that promotes Tajik-Iranian unity. Shamshad is the only real Pashto TV inside Afghanistan but the funny part is that the Dariwans right now have 23 private TV stations. compare one pashto station to 23-25 Dari TV stations.

Why don't you delete these videos, or do you not mind spreading Taleban ''propaganda'' on the net?
So you are trying to say Taliban policies are reflected through Nahseeds? so when they make their policies, they publich them through Nahseeds?

To be honest, I like Nasheeds, Especially those sung for Taliban, but in my eyes they are entertainment and not ground realities. I understand most of you Jamiet students always deny true ground realities to hide your own hidden agenda, but Azmatullah, i recently came from Waziristan,DI Khan and Tank, every single IDP i met, said the same thing, that Pakistan Army and Taliban are Bhai Bhai and cruel.

A village elder told me once, that in 2008, two mahsud youth aged around 10 to 11 were beheaded by Uzbeks and their Taliban supporters, and you think people will support such people.

Taliban do not fight for Pashtuns, go search Usman Punjabi commander of PUNJABI TALIBAN, he is fighting for Punjabis?

If they were true Pashtuns then they wouldnt be killing over 200 tribal elders for Arabs, uzbeks and so on.

        @Shlombay
Did you ever wonder for whom the Taliban regime was quiet era? You seriously think for all Afghans? And I want to see the Shariah where it states treat women like you want to, treat minorities like you want to, and oppress people's desires like you want to. Can you show me that? And nice meeting you as well and even I wish instead of sticking in the past and your pride you would have felt my concern regarding Pukhto and Pukhtoons. And for the rest, I think Zamaryalai has said it all.

        @Zamaryalai
Thank you so much for your honest and great input wrora, thanks a lot. Tajiks were showing their anger in entire world when a journalist wasn't allowed to say Daneshgah instead of Pohantoon (university) and it was all over the news, but when a Pukhtoon wanted to open schools for Pukhtoons, it were our own Pukhtoons who labelled him as a racist. This is exactly the point I was making to Shlombay; Educated Pukhtoons in Kabul are bunch of beghairatan and sold outs, while poor Pukhtoons in Afghanistan suffer thanks to their richer brothers' beghairati. Kandahar still is one of the greatest provinces of Afghanistan and it's very necessary for USA to get Kandahar under control, if we Pukhtoons want to progress. Otherwise Kandahar is nothing today, Paktia is nothing today, Khost is nothing today; We Pukhtoons are nothing today. Why? Because we destroy ourselves either in name of unity, either in name of Islam, or either in name of our great history. While Tajiks want everything but unity with us, they will even reject Islam if that means getting rid of us Pukhtoons, and they have gotten over their history long time ago and making a great future for their people in present days. Tajiks will protest against anything that has got to do with Pukhtoons, while we Pukhtoons with great pleasure watch their channels like Lemar, Tolo, etcetera. Even Noor TV is owned by a Pukhtoon and we all know what kind of station that is. We do call Tajiks beghairat when it comes to their thinking and freedom they give their women, but on political base, unity base and future base they got much more ghairat then we can ever have!

There was a time when Tajiks were in the same army as us Pukhtoons. There were a lot of Tajiks in army of Ahmad Shah Baba, Amanullah Khan was supported by Tajiks and even when Taliban newly came to power Tajiks started to dream of brighter future. But what have we Pukhtoons done to them? All we did is take so called revenge, we made them get the feeling every single second that they are immigrants. Our leaders didn't speak Dari because they loved Tajiks, they spoke in Dari because all they cared for was power and since Kabul was the capital and therefore the place to practice their powers, they just adopted Dari and Tajik culture. Even today we got loads of chances to win back Pukhtoon support and to make our mark in Afghanistan but nope, all we care for is our nang which none cares about and our pride which none cares about.

Just a little something I wanted to say,

Guys, please stop. We are all one. Being Kandahari, or being Kabuli means nothing at all. Especially nowadays when you have over 100,000 foreign invaders in our land. Its silly to argue over such a thing, not to mention useless. As much as I think about it, I fail to understand whats the purpose of discussing such a topic? Has Kandahar contributed to Pashto? No doubt at all.I don't think anyone could argue that they have not in the past. They have arguably contributed more to Pashto in my eyes then any other province. They have obviously produced the best leaders Afghanistan has ever seen, or might ever see. But should only Kandaharis be proud about this? Of course not. The entire Pashtun nation should be happy about the success of Pashtuns. Knocking each others hustle is our biggest problem. We should be proud of all Pashtun provinces.

Its little things like this, That have made us lose our unity. We have been divided because we argue over silly things like "Who's Pashto is the realest?" "Who is a real Pashtun?A Pashtun from Peshawar or Kandahar?" Countries are leap-forwarding in science and technology, Yet we are busy here discussing irrelevant topics. How about we work on writing articles for wikipedia that can actually help us improve our image? How about we translate modern books to Pashto? Bickering over the past is not going to help us at all. We should teach our children the importance of our language. If you guys think your children will be speaking Pashto in the west after 3-5 generations without telling them how important it is, You must be kidding me.

I am not trying to attack anyone here at all, So please don't feel that way, Its a slight dramaturgical approach at looking at our present state in world affairs. Pashtuns should be proud of all Pashtun provinces. Not just Kandahar. As far as I know, Kandahar is a Pashto speaking province, In which Pashto is used for all activities.

After I attended the Afghan soccer tournament in which Kandaharis won. I was quite impressed with a few things. There love for Pashto, Almost all the announcements were in Pashto.

You can take a look here on what I thought of em.
More than a sport broadcast on the recent news channel, this space embraces worldwide players and games while shedding light on the entertainment experienced by the Pashtun population in their homeland.

          Kind Regards,
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

And just like how every Pukhtoon can be proud of a Pukhtoon province's success, exactly same-wise a Pukhtoon can also show his/her concern regarding a Pukhtoon province's misfortune, right? I don't know why this thread got out of hand and when it became 'Kandahar versus other Pukhtoons' thread, but the entire point was a concern about the future which is being overlapped by pride and history by some........

Pashtuns do not need capitals nor do we need pashtuns who boast about their so called province over others, Kandahar maybe so special to some, but its not to others.

There should be no provinces nor capitals, Kandaharis should not think as if they are some kind of upper class and they have contributed everything for Pashtuns.

All Pashtuns are equals, and iam amazed in Pakhtunkhwa, ive never heard Pashtuns boasting how great and how this and that their province is, it seems i only hear this from the Afghan side, maybe its due to the strong rivalry between ghilzais and durranis but who knows, and i dont know myself.

^^that is not true either swat. In the heartland areas of Pashtuns, east or west of the durand line, pashto is spoken. Just like the pashtuns who like islamabad and are of the elite prefer urdu, so did the mohammadzai elite prefer dari. Like my uncle says, "pa marra khaetta pakhto sok khwakhawee..agha kho bya parsi ya urdu passae thakhthee." Just like Mohammadzai royals sold Pashtuns out, so did many high level "pathans" in Islamabad. To be frank Pashtuns on either side are just as bad as the other, they can pretend be whatever, but at the end of the day we have sold each other out.

As if there isnt a PHD available in Afghanistan? So now being educated makes you a Dari speaker? so what now? so the people that are illiterate and uneducated are all Pashto speakers?

In Pakistan we have even PhD in Pashto. we all speak Pashto. In Afghanistan, to be educated you must speak Dari. I guaranty you Shayesta can speak Dari.
Loll I know about Pakistan very well..as I am from Shangla. I studied in Peshawar as well. Like I told you before they are both equally but differently messed. You can get a PHd in pashto in three places - Kabul (maybe not today due to the previous war), peshawar and Russia (BTW Russia was the first place a PHd in pashto even was given, long before we did).
I remember in classes in peshawar, we were double fined if we spoke in pashto. Pashto recently became mandatory in in Pashtunkhwa. The issue in Afghanistan was that the royal family was persianized and so was their court. So this lead to a continuing trend of people prefering dari (kind of like how ttaamiyaan in peshawar don't prefer pashto). However, a good thing about Afghanistan is that in the pashto speaking areas, the boards are in pashto, the education is in pashto, the syllabus is in pashto. Dari is spoken as well, but pashto is part of the curriculum. Even the Afghan national army, the ranks were in pashto (they still are, I believe).

P.S. pakistani, you can get PHd in pashto from peshawar only as far as I know. People can speak pashto in the heartland of Pashtun areas, whether east or west of the durand line. And neither the tajiks nor the rest of pakistan has any respect for pashto. You should see their reactions when we speak it, they will literally mock it.

Yeah, in Pakistan you speak Pukhto with words like 'mehrabani, time, pata' and etcetera, besides counting in Urdu. In Afghanistan we speak Pukhto of 'manana, shebe, poh', etcetera. Hope you got the point.

Yeah, Karachi and Pekhawer are very strong examples of it were Pukhto in sixty years only is struggling, while Pukhto in Afghanistan is 'fighting' against Dari for nearly three centuries and still alive. So far for your 'stronghold'.

You are only doing yourself a favour. If Afghanistan is motherland of all Pukhtoons, then even Pakistan got double of it's numbers of Pukhtoons as compared to Afghanistan so why should it be surprise to have tons of universities in Pukhto there?

Is that the reason why province of Nangarhar got most educated students of Afghanistan and in province of Laghman more and more students join education in Pukhto rather than education in Dari?; Even their Tajiks? And these are just some examples. Every single well educated Afghan can speak both of it's national languages, but at least we don't count in Dari in our Southern provinces.........

And I guarantee you that even you cannot only speak excellent Urdu but possible are much better at Bhangra than Attan; Like majority of Pukhtoons on other side of the border. Am I right or am I right?

And despite of my grandma's and family-in-law being a non-Pukhtoon you still expect me to be alien to Dari, then there is something seriously wrong with you mister Pakistani.

there is some wrong with us pashtuns, a langauge of tajiks (a minority merely 20%) is more successful than a pashto which is spoken by 70% population of country.

smarty like I said Pashtuns on both sides are so screwed it is a surprise we are still a nation. We are sitting here trying to one up each other, which is so trivial. We should be trying to unite and work on activities that benefit us. I don't understand how one upping each other will help us, it just makes us look even more impotent.
