you are the foreigner. And the foreign presence is the barrier to peace and security in Afghanistan. Get out of Afghanistan, stop disguising defeat.Originally posted by Whisley 2-6 View PostI understan its traditional to post about ones' self prior to asking questions: I'm a 31 year old US Army Infantry officer fighting in East Paktika, Afghanistan. My question relates to the distinctions that are drawn between "foreign fighters" entering into Afghanistan through Pakistan, vs. Afghan Taliban. In my line of work we typicallay don't take the time to draw these conclusions. But I am curious about how Pashtuns feel about these interlopers. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I would gladly leave Afghanistan. I don't think another American life or penny is worth being spent here. I don't make or agree with those decisions, just as you don't make or agree with the decisions made on your behalf by GIRoA. As for disguising defeat, its hopeless to affiliate myself with the sucesses or failures of my government. I can tell you that we have had amazing sucess where we operate locally. This isn't Kabul, the places where we work the Taliban doesn't care if you are opposed to NATO. They would beat you for your ability to speak english and kill you if they found your computer. I agree that if NATO left Afghanistan the Taliban would have a hard time raising money and recruiting. But it wouldn't be impossible. I know the govenrment here is imperfect, but aren't you willing to give it some time? Just curious.Originally posted by ghundal View Postyou are the foreigner. We all ask the same question, why do you butter Pakistan with such a soft stance and assurances even though you know very well Pakistan's ISI is sending those Militants to bring Afghanistan into its clutches once you leave.
Secondly, most Pashtuns oppose these Foreign fighters but you guys never take it seriously.

Says the American Talib. You dont complain about Pakistani assets such as Haqqanis sending Suicide bombers into Kabul, do you?Originally posted by ghundal View Postyou are the foreigner. Matt, Ghundal, is a young confused boy from America, he supported the suicide attack on a jirga in bajaur whereby 40 innocent Pashtun were massacred.
Ghundal if you care so much about Afghanistan then why are you promoting and supporting the same Taliban who brought Afghanistan into the clutches of Pakistan and to the era of stone age.

Matt
The opposition isnt in Afghanistan, its in your own western countries and Pakistan with a number of Terrorist infested Arab nations.
Dont take me as Pro-American, I can not forgive the mess your America has created right from the Start, However, I appriciate your concerns about Taliban, Taliban needs to be dislodges, dismantled and wiped off this planet with its Pakistani Supporters.

Pashtun_Ultranationalist: I agree, US foreign policy with regards to Pakistan is schizophrenic at best. No arguments.Originally posted by Pashtun_Ultranationalist View PostSays the American Talib. You dont complain about Pakistani assets such as Haqqanis sending Suicide bombers into Kabul, do you?

Ghundal: I know the Taliban and you sir, are no Taliban. Walk 200km with an AK and 3 mags to fight the Americans and you will have my attention. Lobbing insults over the internet and glorifying the killing of innocent Pashtuns does not a man make. You clearly have so much energy to offer the world, why not focus that on reforming the mess that American good intention has made here.

Anyways, In 1984 the Soviet generals were telling their superiors that the afghan war was unwinnable but their superiors kept telling them give it some time, 5 years later, a million afghans dead, the soviet unions resources wasted for no attainable goal which actually lead to their demise still did the inevitable, which was withdraw.
While I agree with you that recruiting for the Taliban would decrease when NATO leaves just like it happened during the Soviet withdrawal when many fighters laid down their arms and returned to their lives because the goal of kicking out the foreigners was achieved but it will not ensure the current government will survive.
I believe you are caught up in a civil which has nothing to do with you that started back in the 70's and will continue when NATO leaves. This civil war is between the urban elites and the rural poor, every time the rural poor is on the verge of winning, a superpower interferes to prevent them. It is better for the Afghans to let them solve their differences and it is better for the Americans to stop wasting valuable resources on an unattainable goal.
The sooner NATO leaves the quicker and less bloody it will be for Afghans to solve their differences among each other. The longer NATO stays there the more unnecessary blood will be spilled and resources wasted.
While the Taliban do horrific things such as suicide bombing and whipping people for having English speaking skills, they do it because NATO exists on its territory, take away NATO and those things will disappear.

He can offer you his soldierly view on nature of the fight, but I certainly disagree with you on the civil war and the erroneous emphasis you have provided. I don't know where you drew the obscure Urban elite v rural from?Originally posted by khushal View PostWhy are all the soldiers on here named Matt?

Yes sure, foreign presence in the current messy situation can draw recruites, but no one really wants Taliban neither. Other than limited areas most of what is rural doesn't want Taliban. Go and ask Nangarhari, Laghmani, Khostwal, Prwani etc. if they want Taliban back.Last edited by ComradePashtun; 05-19-2011, 10:45 AM.

Im not saying afghans want Taliban or Afghans want Karzai and gang, what I am saying is that let the Afghans decide if they want the Taliban or if the want the Karzai gang or completely someone else. Their decision can not be realized unless you take away the variable of foreign forces shooting at them.Originally posted by ComradePashtun View PostHe can offer you his soldierly view on nature of the fight, but I certainly disagree with you on the civil war and the erroneous emphasis you have provided. Do you really believe that Americans putting Jamiat and Masood's party in power will not have a violent response from Taliban and Hezbi people. Do you think they will stay silent on the sidelines.

If Mexico decides today that they would like to contribute forces to NATO in Afghanistan, America will welcome them. If foreign fighters are entering Afghanistan to fight NATO, of course the insurgents will welcome them. It would be irrational not to.Originally posted by Whisley 2-6 View PostI understan its traditional to post about ones' self prior to asking questions: I'm a 31 year old US Army Infantry officer fighting in East Paktika, Afghanistan.
