Recently there has been speculation that Taliban are no longer opposing girl’s education. Quickly after the speculation was spread out Afghan female representatives in the parliament, women’s activists, Afghanistan’s media and the President appeared skeptical to such speculation to turn in to reality. In an interview with BBC an Afghan female parliament member from the Wardak province of Roshanak said that she strongly disagred the speculation regarding Taliban’s shift of policy towards girl’s education. She said that the Taliban have closed girl’s schools in six districts of Wardak province through intimidation, kidnapping and murder. According to TOLO TV, local authorities from Helmand province say 80% of schools are closed due to Taliban’s intimidation of students and their families. As the governor of Helmand said “families are afraid to let their children go to school because they have seen examples in the past of Taliban atrocities towards students including throwing acid on their faces. No one better understands and remembers Taliban’s abusive and oppressive regime than the Afghans themselves. When the vast majority of Afghan’s vote no to the Taliban it should come as no surprise that a decade is not enough for an oppressed nation to forget the atrocities committed by Taliban particularly towards Afghan women. The dark era under the Taliban regime witnessed women imprisoned in their homes, denied access to basic health care and civil services, and kept from education by the Taliban who used an ignorant and distorted view of Islam to mask their ideology. Do not sacred Islamic traditions protect the rights of women and children? Islam does have specific provisions which define the rights of women in areas such as education, marriage, divorce, and property rights. The Taliban’s version of Islam neither matches holy Islamic scripture, nor has their ideology ever been supported by the world’s Islamic scholars. The deceitful world of extremists continues to unveil itself - from their arrogant fugitive leader Mullah Omar to the brutal extremist Al-Qaeda leader Osama. Yet there remains a small number of people who believe that Taliban were never against girls education.
I ‘m inviting our dear reader’s attention to the following links to make your own fair judgments. whether these hypocritical Taliban leaders will ever honor the very basic right of all humankind; access to education?
