Pure BS! During the 60s and 70s every officer had to be a Pashtun. Non-Pashtuns had to adopte a fake identity
thats not really true at all. the only people this really relates to is hazaras, but even then there were hazara officers. many of whom my grandfather lobbied the king to install based on their merits.

a tajik living in a mixed pashtun/tajik village may(most likely not) get away with changing the "zada" to "zai" in his name. but lets not forget that afghanistan is not the west. people know other people, their families, their roots, their history. someone can not just change their heritage in a place where heritage means everything. this is not america we are talking about here. and more likely than not, a tajik would not have to pretend to be pashtun for a high ranking spot. this is just tajiks i am talking about here, do u really think an uzbek or hazara could get away with pretending to be pashtun? reality > fake identities.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
