Fake source,Oh Boy your seriously hitting your credibility. You don't need to bring false info.Learn to accept facts.Just look at the source itselfOriginally posted by Toramana View PostIn terms of research, the output of Sharif University was 8047 publications till 2010 trailing behind the University of Tehran, which had some 12000 papers.
This study was carried out to evaluate activities in different branches of science in Iran compared to other countries over the past 35 years. Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and Web of Science from (Thomson Reuters ISI) and SCImago Journal & ...

How the hell it is possible to jump from odd 500publications in 2007 to over 8,000 in 2011.
Anyway i don't have the Most latest figure's but as of 2007 But from a credible source
Sharif Univeristy Publication
2006:461
2007:572
Consider the average growth like above or even higher the max they would reach by 2014 is not more than 1200 Publication's..I am sure My figure is far higher but still consider it for the sake of not available latest Numbers
Now compare it with the Comsat Abbottabad(I am not comparing Overall Comsat uni publication throughout Pakistan including lahore and Wah Cantt but only Abbottabad.
Starting from only 37 in 2007 to 436 in 2013.
EDIT:
Damn,The world top Uni MIT Publication for 2013 are odd 8,000 While the indian IIT(Nothing like that exist in Pakistan let alone iran.Don't expect something like IIT magnitude in either Paksitan or iran in the next 4-5decades if not century) has only 2,300 odd publication for 2013.

I would like to see Pakistan have more *conference* publications. Getting published at a conference is what really determines how *well* your research is, and 43 is a pretty low number for an institution. Almost embarrassing to discuss/mention, I suppose the people in your avatar could be a variable behind the low number, singa? In general, the reputation of the conference also matters. You and I can publish at a journal right now, but if no conference accepts it, then that usually means we did peanuts research.Originally posted by Da Bannu Mazdigar View PostFake source,Oh Boy your seriously hitting your credibility. You don't need to bring false info.Learn to accept facts.Just look at the source itself

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Also, the COMSAT looks pretty weak, especially in Computer Science; they need more Ph.D's, who are researchers, and who have better experience. No wonder I've never heard of them. What AFPAK needs to do is send more bright students to the US, home of the best Computer Scientists on earth. You can only be the best, if you are educated by the best, singa @Da Bannu Mazdigar ? Almost embarrassing to be proud of Pakistani higher education, so much has to be done in order to fix the system. I think Pakistan should collaborate with India and Iran to fix their broken system. The Indian IIT's, and Iranian Sharif, Amir Kabir, and Tehran U, can be role models for Pakistani and Afghan universities. Clearly, their alumni has shown that they have received a good education by founding and creating multi-billion dollar companies, and having an impact in society.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

I beg to differ,The QS ranking in itself is based off the Reseach output,Faculty, funding and other related requirements.QS is considered the standard around the world.Originally posted by Admin Khan View PostGIKI is OK; I know more successful NED graduates than GIKI.
As far as Sharif goes, not a single Pakistani university comes close. Stanford University has even gone as far as commending them, and their standards are simply much higher.
anyway how About we compare them ourselves?
Which department to start with?Compare it yourself
GIKI can't be compared with Sharif Uni Because GIKI is completely Private,While Sharif like Nust is completely Public hence better funding(I agree in the west Private does better but in pakistan/Iran it is different). The only competitor to Sharif, would be Bogazici, METU, HKUST. AmirKabir is also pretty good. GIKI needs :
A)better funding
B)better faculty(look at the faculty of Sharif or Amir Kabir or ITU)
In general, I'm biased. I feel like Pashtuns are very smart naturally; so if GIKI begins receiving the same budget that Iran gives it's universities, and if American educated Pakistanis return back to Pakistan(a couple of my friends from LUMS might return if they can't find a job; but they don't want to), then I see GIKI being a threat.
Other than this as i earlier said Iran on average is better than Pakistan on education since Living standard and poverty condition does affect the Population apart from Education crysis in Pakistan which so far only Punjab has addressed in Pakistan and Now thank God PTI in KPK."Seer Speen Wazeer"

Pakistan at the moment is the 2nd fastest Growing country by research output.Hard to beleive but facts are facts after all.
All thanks to Dr Atta Ur rehman
Target should be among the top 15 by 2022-23 and among the top 10 by 2030Pakistan is expected to have second highest increase in research output ranking in the world, increasing from its current position of 43 to 27 in 2018. An encouraging news for higher education sector in Pakistan, the ranking is announced by the Scopus, world’s largest abstract, citation database of research literature and analytical tool similar to Web of Science (Impact Factor).
The Scopus initiated a forecasting exercise on predicting in April 2011 under the topic, “How World Scientific Output will be in 2018”. According to the results of this mega exercise based on the research output from 2003-2010, Pakistan is expected to have the second highest increase in research output ranking in the world.
Commenting on this development, HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Sohail H. Naqvi said this ranking recognises the tremendous growth in research in higher education sector of Pakistan over the past ten years and it also predicts the a bright future for research in Pakistan.” The HEC has accomplished more in nine years since its establishment than was achieved in the first 55 years of Pakistan’s existence. Recently, six Pakistani universities have been ranked among the top 300 Asian universities.
Research output has grown eight-folds since 2002 (from 815 in 2002 to 6,200 in 2011). Around 80 per cent of these research publications from Pakistan are coming from higher education institutions. Output has more than doubled just in the last 3 years and is expected to double again in the next 3 years.
More than 5,000 Pakistani scholars have been facilitated to present their research work in leading conferences of the world. The HEC Video Conference Network is established in all public sector universities by covering 31 cities. The network is recognised one of the mega interactive network by having total 79 purpose built e-classroom based videoconference set-up.
Access to 140 plus free software provided to over 1 million students in higher education sector and there has been more than 80,000 downloads from 68 universities during 2011-12. During 2011-12, a total of 447 accredited lectures/ lecture series have been conducted by both Local and Foreign Speakers under the Virtual Education Programme, totalling to 1,043 lectures since commencement of programme.
The academic circles have termed the Scopus ranking as great success and honour for the county in particular and higher education sector in general. They believe that if the continuous support may be given to this sector and the faculty continues their work with same zeal and vigour, Pakistani higher education sector can win more laurels for the country."Seer Speen Wazeer"

Have a super computer that is twice as fast as Iran does not mean anything; it's about the experience of the researchers, and the ability of solving problems, tough and complex problems. Home grown, Pakistan will not be able to achieve anything, in my opinion. Pakistan needs to learn from Iran, and that is send more students so they can learn from experts in the field. I can't name a single Pakistani expert within Pakistan in the domain of Engineering. That's a problem, because most of the Pakistani lecturers and pseudo-Professors, have Master Degrees, or Bachelor degrees, and haven't even bothered with a Ph.D, which is where you really learn to become a researcher.
Iran's Sharif, has had 3 presidents from MIT, and some from U-Waterloo(the best CS program in Canada), and so he has been able to share his *experience* with his nation. The same can't be said about Pakistan. Let me try to make you understand what a Ph.D is in the US says, it's a tough task, to solve an open ended problem, and it usually takes 6-8 years. Within those 8 years, you interact with other like-minded people, and learn a lot. Imagine bringing all that expertise back to Pakistan.
The quality of Iran's publications, the students of Iran(they go through a national examination to be selected for Sharif, as Sharif only accepts the brightest students in Iran, and from what I learned, there is no corruption in this process, much like India's JEE).Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

This is an embarassing conversation to have, because like I said, there aren't well educated faculty members in Pakistan, as compared to Iran, aside from the OBVIOUS success of Sharif alums(look at Linkedin, and where they are, compare them to any Pakistani University)In addition, look at the *publications* of the Iranian faculty members, and their experience.Originally posted by Da Bannu Mazdigar View PostI beg to differ,The QS ranking in itself is based off the Reseach output,Faculty, funding and other related requirements.QS is considered the standard around the world.

But just to give you a sense of realization, compare the Computer Engineering departments, in Iran you are taught by Ph.D's, whereas in Pakistan, it's more likely to be taught by a Masters student, which are known cash-cow programs meant to just be a source of money for universities.
35 Ph.D's vs 13, and on top of that, you find Ph.D's from U-Waterloo, one of the best Engineering schools in the world; Not a single Pakistani professor has an event remotely similar academic pedigree or research experience. Getting a Ph.D from U-Waterloo is a big deal, then say, the University of Dundee
The quality of students is also different, as you know, an average Iranian student is much more intelligent than the average Pakistani student, simply because of :
A)Quality of life
B)Better primary education
C)Higher standards
D)Better funding
E)Better institutions for higher education
F)Rigorous entrance examination to be admitted Sharif. Sharif accepts the top 1-2 percent of Iranian applications, compare that to Pakistan!

Corruption in ETEA is next to impossible let alone to get into NUST.Yes Many in Pakistan leave Pakistan after PHD whil they might return or not go incase of iran because iran will provide them atleast comparable standard of the europe which can't be said about Pakistan.
But due to Mullah's in power despite 100Billion dollars worth oil revenue iran is struck by 400bn$Odd GDP since 2006.in 1999 Pakistan and iran GDP difference was 4times today as per 2013-14 Iran GDP has further shrink to 366Billion dollars while Pakistan will expand to 302Billion dollars. They further are said to grow in negative till 2017 while we will hit more than 5% next year.So even in the education beat Pakistan will beat iran in the years to come.
anyway SJR has warned iran to not include oil/Gas industries/firms publication's into account.Since iran 67% Publications are out of private sector.or the news was something similar posted by a turkish in response to false numbers of publication by Iran.Even though turkey on each and every standard is decades ahead of iran"Seer Speen Wazeer"

Best,
Because NUST computer science deparmentt was formed in 2000.
Now considering the first batch
*from 2000 to 2005 they will get the basic Eng Degree
*2005 to 2007 or even 2008,They will have completed the M phill
Now add to this Phd in foriegn(atleast 5years or even more)
By now it would be safe to assume that the first batch would have completed Phd.
Now i don't think Google or Facebook will hire student directly with the basic Eng degree.
So expect them onwards 2020-25.
we are unfair with NUST alumni Because the major departments were formed after 2000.Sharif in itself was direcly formed as a engineering university 45years earlier compared to the major departments of nust hardly 12-13 years ago"Seer Speen Wazeer"

Malgara, having a super computer does not mean a nation is doing better than the other. China has the fastest super computer in the world, and it's just as embarrassing to compare to China to the USA in terms of higher education; do you see my point now? It's the *researchers*, and *experts*, and *experience*, and the growth. Iran has sanctions in almost *all aspects of research*, yet as I taught you, it is still much, much stronger than Pakistan. I also think Iran has the 4th strongest cyber army, although Iran claims it's the 2nd largest in the world.Originally posted by Da Bannu Mazdigar View PostAlumni of Sharif is strong becasue it is much Older(1966)

Well one of the biggest problem with iran is their false claims.2nd biggest problem is useless threatening.I mean they threaten israel almost everyday but had never in the history engaged with israel.Originally posted by Admin Khan View PostMalgara, having a super computer does not mean a nation is doing better than the other. I also think Iran has the 4th strongest cyber army, although Iran claims it's the 2nd largest in the world.

Nice talking to you wrora.
For fooling the common People,Iran leadership does has the habit of claiming tall and false claims of which the one about cyber army is true.I mean just look at indian IT and than compare it with Iran. But you would never hear something like that out of indian society.Because they are much more mature.Infact even Pakistan is better than them since atleat we don't put false claims.
Just look at this.and when this news was published, even the iranian leadership was praising it like hell.
i mean we do have people like Agha waqar(Claiming to have developed a car running on water) but rare.Other most important part is usually we deny but if you happen to have ever visited the iranian Forum's.I am sure you would incounter alot of false claims.
Now coming to the sanction part
Sir do you know the history of Pakistan and sanction that too without any oil revenue?
Pakistan was under sanction till 2003 under musharaf starting from kirana hills test 1983-84.Pakistan again was under sanction in 1968 When the IAEA suspected that Pakistan was building a nuclear reactor for Weapon grade HEU production and the canadian firm pulled out of building the PARR series reactors.
Today in 2013,Iran had the export of 65Billion dollars of which 47Billion dollars was out of oil compared to 29-30Billion dollars of Pakistan without oil and extreme energy crisis and still the growth rate registered in the export was even higher than china and india growth rate combined. And with that growth rate our Export will hit 50Billion dollars in 2018 as per TDAP.
so the sanction excuse for iran is only a excuse since Pakistan has also faced decades of sanctions,Civil war, energy crisis, terrorism and no oil revenue with a smaller land and far bigger population
anyway had a nice discussion indeed
