Just look at this.and when this news was published, even the iranian leadership was praising it like hell.

i mean we do have people like Agha waqar(Claiming to have developed a car running on water) but rare.Other most important part is usually we deny but if you happen to have ever visited the iranian Forum's.I am sure you would incounter alot of false claims.

Now coming to the sanction part
Sir do you know the history of Pakistan and sanction that too without any oil revenue?

Pakistan was under sanction till 2003 under musharaf starting from kirana hills test 1983-84.Pakistan again was under sanction in 1968 When the IAEA suspected that Pakistan was building a nuclear reactor for Weapon grade HEU production and the canadian firm pulled out of building the PARR series reactors.

Today in 2013,Iran had the export of 65Billion dollars of which 47Billion dollars was out of oil compared to 29-30Billion dollars of Pakistan without oil and extreme energy crisis and still the growth rate registered in the export was even higher than china and india growth rate combined. And with that growth rate our Export will hit 50Billion dollars in 2018 as per TDAP.

so the sanction excuse for iran is only a excuse since Pakistan has also faced decades of sanctions,Civil war, energy crisis, terrorism and no oil revenue with a smaller land and far bigger population

anyway had a nice discussion indeed

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. How the hell it is possible to jump from odd 500publications in 2007 to over 8,000 in 2011.

Anyway i don't have the Most latest figure's but as of 2007 But from a credible source

      Sharif Univeristy Publication

      2006:461
      2007:572

Consider the average growth like above or even higher the max they would reach by 2014 is not more than 1200 Publication's..I am sure My figure is far higher but still consider it for the sake of not available latest Numbers

Now compare it with the Comsat Abbottabad(I am not comparing Overall Comsat uni publication throughout Pakistan including lahore and Wah Cantt but only Abbottabad.

Starting from only 37 in 2007 to 436 in 2013.

      EDIT:

Damn,The world top Uni MIT Publication for 2013 are odd 8,000 While the indian IIT(Nothing like that exist in Pakistan let alone iran.Don't expect something like IIT magnitude in either Paksitan or iran in the next 4-5decades if not century) has only 2,300 odd publication for 2013.

Boy,I am telling you.Your hitting your credibility
Mr. Crackhead, the publications are over a period of 35 years and not over 4 years but in your haste to brag Paki style, you didn't bother to read the article in detail, which has been published in a journal. And below are some of the research output of Sharif University on research gate. It may give you some idea as how are the things going at Sharif in terms of research.

As for the COMSAT, no where does the site say the research data belongs to the Abbotabad Campus. The data is most likely for all campuses.

And it doesn't matter how big your middle class is. What matters is the research productivity of your middle class. To comprehend this, you can compare the research productivity of your 70 millions middle class country men with the research productivity of England.

Also as I see most of the faculty at COMSAT has indigenous PhDs as faculty. Many are PhDs from Malaysia. I very well know do you do Ph. D. from Malaysia.

I can't comment on these universities (I honestly don't know much) but Da Bannu Mazdigar, quantity of publications doesn't necessarily imply quality; a more useful measure is citations (an even more useful measure is external citations per publication, not explicitly mentioned). Check this out
          http://www.scimagojr.com/countryrank.php
China, for example, in the period 1996-2007 had more scientific documents published than the UK, Germany etc yet the citations of those publications is a negligible fraction of these individual western countries. The same is true for India which has more publication quantity than the Scandinavian countries, do you seriously think India is more relevant to the scientific world than Sweden?
This is why these rankings of the universities outside the west are all dubious, they are only national measures and cannot be compared to the standard of the actual scientific world (i.e. the west, Japan etc).

Excellent point; just to add to what you said, what also matters is if your paper is accepted into a major conference. Technically, you and I can publish a paper as well, except that it could be about peanuts, and no ACM, IEEE organization will be willing to accept it. Sharif, has most of its publications in major conferences, which is why I am so impressed. I can't say the same about *any* Pakistani university. Pakistan seems to be going backwards, in my opinion. The issue is culture; Pakistanis, for the most part, are no where near as sophisticated, or as into education as the Persians. Persians have national pride, since quite a lot of historical, major scientists where of Persian descent.

For example, Algorithms, the fundamental concept in Computer Science, is named after Al-Khwarizmi.

Over 35 Years?Thats on average odd 250.I know the current publication rate would be higher and getting higher.

I am more than 100% sure you didnt even bothered reading the other information on the site apart from the numbers of publication while even the URL of the site mention it as Comsat ATD

Now this is the complete list of all the campus of Comsat.Click on the individual city branch and browse the publications yourself

For example This is the research output of Lahore campus

I am working on to study the project taken up by Sharif.
As far as i know Nust has taken project of developing Battle field radar's,Developing parts of thermal imagers for Tanks,AESA radar(Not for mass production), and many more to mention.

Mind it,The project like above can only be under taken by the likes of IIT's and NIT's in India.

Indeed but neither Iran is in the west nor Pakistan. It is not that in iran only quality research is under taken.

anyway about the SJR ranking.I will try to post a link if i could find since i had read it in the def.pk posted by a turkish member after iranian chest thumping for being 17th largest in research output. The SJR had warned them to seperate the industrial sector publications from the national because the Publication out of iran were mostly by private sector.

But i still must say Iran has done incredible.

anyway as per the Same SJR prediction,Pakistan is the 2nd fastest country growing in term of research output after iran.

So i don't agree with the citation mark since neither Pakistan is in the west nor Iran.

this is how the industry and Economy of Both Pakistan and iran are working.
I am sure you do know a diversitied Economy is the future. And this is the sole reason as to why Iran GDP has already shrinked by more than 40%.From 566Billion dollars in 2009 to 366Billion dollars in 2014 with the country economy to remain in negative till 2017-18

                This is iran Economy(Output)

                This is the Pakistani Economy(Output)

Iran is considered in the league of all oil producing Countries.A couple of months back a iranian was jumping around in their own forum about the Industry of iran and pakistan.Pakisan industrial output was 25% of GDP of 75Billion dollars today while in iran the industrial sector is combined with the oil sector which use to give numbers of 188Billion dollars for Iran.

After a week research i had posted him figures of Manufacturing sector in Value Added from both World bank and IMF quoting iran manufacturing sector at only 29billion dollars by 2007 while the Growth rate from 2009-2011 was again in negative and only picking up last year.Which put their manufacturing output even below 35Billion dollars as of 2013.

Since than he has never engaged with me about the industrial sector of iran.

The reason i said so was because the iranian govt fool the people with wrong figure's.sometime they claim they have developed time machine,Sometime they have developed a body armour capable to withstand anti material rifle, sometime they have developed air defence system's like s-300 within 2 years of the refusal of russia to supply them which later turned out to be Oil drums painted

So one has to consider the credibility of iran before taking any of their work for real.

We certainly have no proof of Better research output out of iran.I have searched alot but could not find the list of Sharif University publication.

Persian only are half of Iran Population today and Sorry but no such thing as Cultural exist in this modern world.anyway Pakistan in its less than 7 decades history has already produced a scientist to get nobel for scientific research. The only iranian i could find out of iran is a Women but she got nobel peace prize and not for research.

Well sir,I am not sure when was the last time you had been to Pakistan. But surely if you have been to Pakistan today,You would notice alot of change in the pakistani youth from Ground level.

                      R&D spending matters alot

Pakistan spends 0.67% of GDP on R&D while iran 0.43%.

For Pakistan Latest Figures are not available though as per 2007 Pakistan had spent almost 2.5Billion dollars on R&D compared to 3.5Billion dollars by iran though in 2012

It would be safe to assume that Pakisan spends higher than iran on R&D considering the difference of 2007 and 2012.

New Asia rankings from Times (one of the most prestigious ranking system in the world):

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2014 are based on the same criteria as the THE World University Rankings, powered by Thomson Reuters. We judge world-class universities across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Iran once again proves what I said all along, Sharif is 37th in Asia, and Pakistan(along with its conjoined twin Afghanistan is no where to be found) because its busy producing/exporting terrorism, or dealing with internal conflict(think Karachi airport attack). This is a direct result of the faculty of Sharif, as I elaborated on earlier. 3 Iranian Uuniversities in the top 90. IIT-Kharagpur is pretty good as well, good job India.

                            Times uses:

                            • Teaching: the learning environment (worth 30 per cent of the overall score)
                            • Research: volume, income and reputation (worth 30 per cent)
                            • Citations: research influence (worth 30 per cent)
                            • Industry income: innovation (worth 2.5 per cent)
                            • International outlook: staff, students and research (worth 7.5 per cent).
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

Times and QS ranking were under joint collaboration until the last couple of years.

The Most important Part is unlike Sharif which was made 4-5 decades back all the major departments of engineering in NUST are made operaitonal around 2000.And still it beats the best out of iran with Publication and QS ranking.

anyway Iran and Pakistan both are the world most fastest growing countries by research output,Pakistan will pose a Growth of 330% till 2018 in research output while iran 550%
