    From GIKI to MIT

Where are you from and where did you complete your undergraduate studies?

I am from Pakistan and I went to GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology for my undergraduate studies
    .

What is your research about and why are you excited about your projects?

My research focuses on Power Electronics. I am working on a new topology for high efficiency resonant dc/dc power converter for solar power applications. The converter steps up the voltage of PV panels efficiently to connect them to the utility grid with the help of an inverter.

One of the things that excites me about my research is that power electronic circuits are found in variety of applications and right now they are mostly the bottlenecks in shrinking the size of these systems. So, even with a little improvement you can have a great impact.

What do you like to do outside of research and academics?

I love to experience and learn new things whether it’s experiencing sailing for the first time or seeing a place that I haven’t seen before. I also like to play sports. I love playing soccer and basketball. Recently, I am learning how to play tennis.

What are your career goals and future plans?

I am just starting my Ph.D. and figuring out what I want to do afterwards. What I am clear on is whatever I end up doing should improve the lives of people and I should thoroughly enjoy it.

GIKI built with BCCI (Bank of Crooks and Criminals International) money is a low-class university where confrontation rules despite the huge funding by the govt. Leaving one or two exceptions aside, look at its overall performance, e.g., compare its research output so far with the University of Tehran or Sharif University.

Funny when i brought up the QS ranking Which is based off:

        Methodology of the major rankings
        2.1 Academic peer review (40%)
        2.2 Faculty student ratio (20%)
        2.3 Citations per faculty (20%)
        2.4 Recruiter review (10%)
        2.5 International orientation (10%)
I am not sure what is your problem. You keep on watching for problems/negative things in everything.I have noticed that anything is associated with pashtun People you hate it.not sure whether of jealousy or what.

anyway Sharif University is of NUST league and can't be compared with GIKI.GIKI ranks 4th in Pakistani HEC ranking.

GIKI doesnt get funds from Govt but rather it is a private uni and also gets donation(mostly from the alumni).

GIKI has produced students getting into MIT and many other reputed institutes. My First cousin is in the mechinal eng dept and he will leave for italy next year.I have been to GIKI tech Festival in 2012 even though i didnt had any knowledge about those thing but now when i recall the event i do say it is a hell of a university considering Pakistan standard.

QS rankings look into everything and they had put NUST ahead of any other uni out of iran.Don't be surprised if uni's like Air,Fast,Uet Lahore and Taxila and more to mention beat upto the best in iran.

For more detail visit the Nust site of Eng and computer science dept.you would be surprised by the project they have taken

Don't fool yourself into believing the flawed results by the QS due to the concocted figures provided by the proverbially corrupt Pakis. Look at the following Sharif University link and compare it with any university in Pakistan.

What an idiotic response. A typical Paki crackhead blasts when confronted with evidence. Now go list me the faculty profile of NUST, GIKI, or the top-ranking Qaud-i-Azam University along with the research output and quality to compare with the second-ranking Sharif University.

And I know many people that have worked in GIKI as well as their academic and research standing, which is just dross.

Here is faculty profile of Computer Science and Engineering of GIKI. One can see the difference.

                  I already know this. :-)

If you look at my responses, I already mentioned "except one woman from Pakistan".

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I will post it later tonight.GIKI has never been able to get into the top asian uni's let alone world level. But The growth of GIKI is even better than NUST.NUST will always be ahead of GIKI becasue of funds.

PIEAS is currently the top ranking Engineering Uni in Pakistan

anyway compare the best out of iran with NUST.

For the time being compare it yourself. Both NUST and Sharif or any other out of iran.

                    For Computer Science Compare COMSAT.

I happen to have checked the Publication out of iranian Uni's.Could not believed that the top iran University has published less than 1200 compared to Comsat Abottabad with close to 400 Publication alone let alone Comsat lahore or Wah cannt.

I will post in more detail later.

Overall research output of iran is higher than Pakistan though may be because of higher industrilization of Iran(By sector composition the iran financy ministry report to the world bank Put Oil and industry combined figure of 48-50%.So it is hard to know the Non oil industry of iran in actuall value)

GIKI is OK; I know more successful NED graduates than GIKI.

As far as Sharif goes, not a single Pakistani university comes close. Stanford University has even gone as far as commending them, and their standards are simply much higher.

The only competitor to Sharif, would be Bogazici, METU, HKUST. AmirKabir is also pretty good. GIKI needs :

                        A)better funding
B)better faculty(look at the faculty of Sharif or Amir Kabir or ITU)

In general, I'm biased. I feel like Pashtuns are very smart naturally; so if GIKI begins receiving the same budget that Iran gives it's universities, and if American educated Pakistanis return back to Pakistan(a couple of my friends from LUMS might return if they can't find a job; but they don't want to), then I see GIKI being a threat.

Despite all the sanctions, Iran is #1 in scientific growth, and Olympiads, which I would argue measure the raw brain power of a human, Iran does really well, and has even won the Math Olympiad one year(that means being #1 in the world.). Pakistan even though it has 2-3x population, is usually in the 90-100.

My experience with Iranian students is :

A)Iran sends way too many foreign students(most which return)
B)They are very sharp and hard working
C)They have a very strong foundation and attend the top schools
                          D)They are involved in research

Actually, there are very few Pashtuns in GIKI. Most of the students and faculty (about 95%) is non-Pashtuns. Once we were talking with a GIKI administrator and he said he would not allow the university to be transformed into a "kho-chai" (derogatory reference to Pashto language) institution.
