If the greeting is followed by his business pitch, I can listen and then tune out. Similarly, for whatever reason, even before 9/11; as close to it as 07/01 - The Taliban stopped their interaction.
For instance, is Vietnam, now dealing with Panetta as the winner of the Vietnam war a hypocritical move?
What about Dheim's Vietnam?
Why is it that Dheim's Vietnam was seen as 'selling out'???
The difference lies in autonomous nations being able to control the deal from their own end.
A nation occupied by hundreds of countries and with an army being supplied by occupiers, signing on a dotted line, is hardly comparable to a government deemed autonomous.
For that matter, was Hudaybiah also a bad move then? A situation in which Omar felt strongly that the Prophet had given too much to the enemy?
A truly autonomous power, like the US post revolution, dealing with Britain, or the US nixing Dubai port deals - can walk out whenever it wants.
Instead, as we see in the nonautonomous Iraqi nation - the semblence of "not signing on the dotted line" can be made but in reality that decision meant really next to nothing.
