I don't think the Islamic texts contain any reference to them, though I could be wrong.
This story is mentioned in the Qur'an as إرَم ذات العماد (Iram of the Pillars) and is also known as Ubar, Wabar and many other names including Atlantis of the Sands. It is thought to be in Dhofar region of Oman or in Rub al Khali region.

You can find more information on Google regarding this.

The Qur'an, chapter 89 (Al Fajr), verse 6 to 14:

6: Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad
7: [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,
8: The likes of whom had never been created in the lands
9: And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
10: And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?
11: [All of] whom oppressed within the lands
12: And increased therein the corruption.
13: So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
14: Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

King Shadad defied the warnings of the prophet Hud and God smote the city, driving it into the sands, never to be seen again. The ruins of the city lie buried somewhere in the sands of the Rub al Khali region.

In the 1990s a team lead by archaeologist and film maker Nicholas Clapp and adventurer Ranulph Fiennes, archaeologist Juris Zarins and lawyer George Hedges announced that they had found Ubar.

The conclusion they reached, based on site excavations at the site of a well in Dhofar province, Oman, and an inspection of NASA satellite photographs, was that this was the site of Ubar, or Iram of the Pillars which is the name for an ancient city destroyed by an act of God.

God bless Bush, Obama, USA, NATO, USSR, Osama, Taliban, Ahmed Shah Massoud, British, ISI, Northern Alliance and whoever else kills Afghans everyday.

It looks super-quiet in those pictures, though as we all know looks can be deceiving.

It is a quiet city compared to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or other major Khaleeji cities but there is a lot of traffic because there are so many cars, you can get stuck for hours.

Yeah its nothing compared to UAE but the problem is we dont have any public transport and so if you dont have a car, you are stuck at home. this is why there are so many cars in Oman.

Upon arrival at Muscat airport you can get a tourist visa for R.O. 5 (10 days) or R.O. 20 (2 weeks) and GCC nationals do not need a visa, also Moroccans do not need a visa.
