This is a thread about my country which is the Sultanate of 'Oman.

'Oman borders: UAE, Sa'udi Arabia, Yemen and Iran by sea. Previously Zanzibar in Tanzania and Gwadar in Pakistan were part of 'Oman and Zanzibar was the capital.

Main languages in 'Oman are: Arabic, Balushi and Swahili. Also spoken are minor languages like Mehri and Lewati. Hindi and Urdu are also spoken by many 'Omanis and by immigrants from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. English is an important language but not many people speak it and French is also becoming popular here as a foreign language.

The capital is Masqat (Muscat)

Salalah is the only place in the Gulf where there is a monsoon season.

Musandam is known as the "Norway of Arabia" because of its icy mountains.

Sohar is now the only commercial port of 'Oman, it is my city.

Compared to our neighboring countries we do not have as much oil.

'Oman has good relations with Iran.

'Omani food is similar to Yememi, African and Balushi food.

'Oman is ruled by Sultan Qaboos.

'Oman is a very peaceful country with almost no crime.

'Oman is a high income economy and 'Omani people work in all types of jobs.

'Oman has begun an Omanization campaign which means more jobs for 'Omanis.

'Omani people are hard working compared to our neighbors.

1. Oman had a big empire in the past consisting of three regions of the world:

a: Arabian peninsula

b: east Africa

c: Balochistan (e.g. Gwadar).

Compared to our neighboring countries we do not have as much oil.

Oman, though not being as rich as Qatar or the UAE, is definitely the most independent-minded country in the GCC i.e. they do not follow what "Big brother", Saudi Arabia says.

I am glad you don't do that e.g. in Bangladesh whenever the left-wing party the Awami League (hated by Pakistan) comes in to power the Saudis, UAE etc have applied sanctions e.g. de facto ban on recruiting Bangladeshi workers. I know Oman never followed these anti-Bangladeshi policies Alhamdulilah.

Also historically the country is the only state in the gulf to have had an empire in recent history and I think thus they have less of an "inferiority complex" or need to show off as the Qataris, Saudis, Emiratis all do with their building of tall glass buildings.

As for being Ibadi, just to let you know I once met an Ibadi from Algeria (this was when I was in Syria) from the Berber Mzab tribe, though I never spoke to him about 'Ibadiyaa. I never speak about politics or similar things except with close friends.

The word Ibadi comes from Ibadat (prayer) and Ibadi sect was founded about 20 years after Prophet’s death. Ibadis try to follow Islam exactly, rigidly exactly, the way the Prophet taught and lived it.

Ibadis, initially, did not use this name for themselves as a group. Rather they used names like Muslims al-Muslimun (community of the Muslims), Jama’at al-Muslimin, or ‘Ahl el-da’wah (people of the mission).

Ibadis put more emphasis on the Qur'an than Hadith.

Yes that is true that Omanis do not care about Sa'udi Arabia or its policies.
We also have a lot of Bangladeshi people who work here and some have become Omani citizens. Also you are right we do not have all these tall buildings or such things that Dubai or Qatar does instead we promote our tourism based on culture and natural beauty rather than fake developements.

And the King also has close ties with England.

I'm not saying this to look down upon your country. Your country is very nice.

But I don't like its leader. I think the Iranian behavior with the West is more Islamic than all other muslim countries.

Yes we do have close ties with England because Oman was a British protectorate but the British did not rule Oman like India.

Sultan Qaboos is the best leader because he has done everything for Oman. 70 years ago there was nothing here but after Sultan Qaboos came in power he transformed Oman and he keeps neutral relations with everyone. He also gives a lot of care to the people and every Omani citizen gets a plot of land when they turn 18, which other country does this?

Sultan Qaboos might be a good leader for your people the 'Omanis, but he is not a good leader for the Ummah since he allows military bases from the US.

Just like Iranians have good leaders against the West but bad leaders for the Ummah.

Sultan Qaboos might be a good leader for your people the 'Omanis, but he is not a good leader for the Ummah since he allows military bases from the US.

Just like Iranians have good leaders against the West but bad leaders for the Ummah.

I knew about Thumrait but its not a US military base, its an Omani base but US is allowed to use it too, I didnt know about the other ones.

Didn't Oman also had some kind of uprising? I heard in the news that Shias in your country are some kind of second class citizens or was that another country Qatar?....I always confuse all those small arab country next to SA....

PS nice pictures, Oman look really beautiful. But I think Afghans or other South Asians would be discriminated there, like in all those Arab countries.....
