Hunting is something I disagree with. In fact, I think mostly cowards involve themselves in such activity.

The truth is most hunters, especially in the Western Hemisphere, hunt for sport.

I remember when I was small, watching one of those hunting shows that ran on Saturday mornings, and seeing a bunch of brutes surround a bear that was up in a tree, and fire arrows at it. They proceeded to do this slowly, torturing the bear to a final death.

Its really a bunch of cruel and barbaric cowards. In other words, it does not equal bravery and courage.

Bravery and courage is the "weak" fighting and defeating the "might."

Lastly, unless you live in rural areas within the Muslim world, there is no such thing as halal meat since all the animals, even at the Halal places where they are killed, are killed in a factory style setting.

For example, sheep are hung from their legs from a conveyor belt, and then "halaled" one by one.

This actually violates all the rules associated with the sacred act of killing an animal for food. The Prophet(pbuh) has said that the death has to be very fast, and that the animal can not see the other animal getting killed. This is not the case anymore with "for profit" halal meat stores.

No real such thing as halal meat.

the whole argument of hunting for the sake of regulating animal populations is horrible. i am willing to bet animals were doing just fine regulating themselves, as nature does, before people started shooting them for sport.

we might as well start killing human beings since our sustainability has far worse prospects in the present and future than any animal that is killed.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

I strongly agree with your post.

However, which specific country in the Muslim world are you giving an example of?

In Pakistan, I know large-scale poultry companies use conveyor belts, but butcher shops slaughter the animals, mainly chickens and goats, by hand.

I trained as a butcher in a speciality Afghan sheep shop at Qissa Khwani, Peshawar and in Islamabad, where no machines were involved in Zabihah.

            I meant generally.

When you slaughtered the sheep, did you take them to a separate room away from the other sheep?

If the other sheep witnessed that, then not only is that sheep meat not halal, but the meat of the other sheep is not either for an added reason aside from the method of killing.

**There is always a biological reason to this too even though it is irrelevant. When an animal is scared, its blood rushes towards the heart since its sympathetic system is highly activated. Due to this, any resulting meat is usually hard. Im going to assume that this was the hidden blessing in having proper halal meat according to the customs.

So when those other sheep witness the death of the sheep in front of them, they are scared before death. The way an animal is supposed to be slaughtered is a very important basic that sets the Islamic faith apart from others.

It is supposed to be as painless as possible. In fact, the Prophet (pbuh) in his Hadiths has gone over this many times.

When my father was small, he witnessed a sheep being beaten to death on the pavement before being halaled.

He did not eat meat for a long time after that.

I think I get it from that upbringing.

I have been in a fair share of fights in my middle school days, mostly picking fights with the bullies (who bullied other students- I was never picked on since people feared me since I would fight people way bigger then me) and sometimes winning and other times getting beaten the crap out of ..

My affection for animals is not a sign of weakness. Animals do no wrong.

The sheep and goats were taken to a seperate place, but the chickens were slaughtered in store, in front of the other chickens. Headless chickens were running around all over until they finally stopped.

When we did Qurbani at home on Eid, we always used to take the goats one by one, to different places and fed them a cube of sugar before proceeding.

well said ......hunting is permitted in Islam but not as a sport or recreation. This is dishonoring the ruH of the animal.

I too tried to avoid meat for a while, because I read somewhere that meat is dead matter and does not add to one's own life.
But then I learned that vegetables are also "dead" once cooked, so that nullifies the above.

I was also quite violent as a child, but always cared for animals.

Other children would shoot geckoes on the wall with a BB gun, but I would then shoot them in order to protect the lizards, as they are amongst my favorite creatures.
They even tried justifying the act by claiming the Qur`an encourages killing of lizards due to them ruining the spider's web used to protect The Prophet (P.B.U.H.).

as many of you may have known when I first came here; I'm vegan and I chose to be because the our relationship with the ecosystem is no longer consistent with a stable equilibrium with other species

It's a very noble decision, albeit not an easy one to take.

Do you eat tofu and drink soy milk?

I enjoy eating such products, once in a while.
I like the taste and it makes me feel good about myself.

I do use a lot of soy products but my diet primarily consist of seitan, legumes, quinoa and semi raw/veggies, I only blanch vegetables so their nutrient load isn't ruined

                            I like seitan and quorn.

I tried raw veganism for a few days last year, but found it was time consuming and not practical with all the sprouting and juicing.

being raw is hard, I cook my seitan and tofu and blanch this is adequate for me.
