• Pashtuns from pak and afg

So yesterday a kabalay pashtun who i befreind told me(after asking where i was from and ****) "ao ta khu rata pakistanai khkari aghai(my other friends) paki pata chali che afghanan di o sta pata chali pakistanai ye". This makes me wonder; how can yall tell from the way a pashtun looks whether he is pakistani or afghan?

Several Factors:
- face shape
- talking style
- skin color
- friends(maybe)

Also,
Play Attan or Qataghani music and see if he/she itches
Ask about the meaning of Kabuli Pulao. If the answer is 'Kabul .....' He/she might not be. Lol

P.S. I have a good eye for such stuff!

All of the above without him/her talking in Pashto or a gendered language.

One of the easiest ways you can tell is from the dialect. There are certain words that only Pakistani Pashtuns use and others that only Afghan Pashtuns use. This isn't only limited to loanwords. There are some pure Pashto words only used by people of a certain tribe or area. For example, the word "pai" I believe is only used by people from the Peshawar valley and other parts of KPK. Since those areas are under Pakistan people who use the word "pai" can be expected to be Pakistani Pashtuns.
As for facial features, I can't tell where someone is from by their face but some people can see a difference between Pashtuns from the more far-flung Pashtun areas(away from the Durand line) when you get close to the Durand line these small differences go away(I doubt there is a difference between a shinwari from Landi Kotal and one from Nangrahar).

Ask this question from your Kabalay maajar friend that how he was able to tell that you are a Pakistani? because certainly word Pakistani is not written on your forehead and both of you must be in western get up.

Some times people, in attempt to appear sharp, say 'yea you look like an Afridi, a Swabiwal, a Gandapur etc' after you introduce yourself to them. If you ask them to make a guess about your background before introducing yourself, , they will be off the mark in most of the cases.

I can't tell unless I hear them speak Pashto, and I'm not familiar with every accent so even then I might not be able to figure it out.

Pakistani and Afghan Pashtuns don't look different (there are differences in looks between tribes, not the two countries), so I don't know how anyone could guess based on face alone.

Afghan Pashtuns to me look organic while Paki Pashtuns looks purely In did with some Iran ic and West a Asian Input.

take example of one famous Afghan who own bollywood YT channel, he's from Afghanistan with purely pale skin, light eyed and pure ironic facial features.

and other YT channel named sid not dina. Sid the pashtun have pure dalit facial features, looks half Drividian and speaks Pashto just like his father from KPK.

Arms of the brave(kshatriya) always support and sustain the people like (a father his) son.
A brave(kshatriya) is, for this reason, honoured by all, in all situations.

Samandri and Traveller both have a point.

The people from a certain tribe or location may have similar looks , but you can't say that all Afghan Pashtuns look the same , or vice versa.

A Shinwari from Khyber Agency(Pak) will most likely resemble a fellow tribesperson from Nangarhar(Afg) than a Durrani from Chaman(Pakistan).

The Durrani from Chaman will look more similar to someone from Kandahar probably.

What the **** do you know about Pashtun features? I have seen Indian Gujarati looking Pashtuns from Afghanistan and I have seen plenty of pale looking Pashtuns from Pakistan with varieties of hair colour in my own family.

Don't come on to a Pashtun forum and tell us what you think Pashtuns looks like when you have no clue.

You prat.

A lot of people also lie about what tribes they are from when abroad. If you are "ballad" with different tribespeople and look and listen carefully you can catch these people out.

A lot of Pakhtuns also don't readily divulge information about their tribes for a lot of other reasons.

It is easy to tell the difference between the two groups based on language alone. Sentences in Pashto from Afghanistan are structured slightly differently and certain phrases are also different. Also Pakistani Pashto uses a lot of Urdu words.

The afghan expats I've met tend to not be that tall. All except for 1 person I know are basically shorter than me (by a bit).

Anyone else experience this?
