khushal I came to know about this practice/custom from a drama on AVT Khyber. I haven't seen anyone practicing it in Pekhawar, Mardan, Nokhar, Sawabi etc etc.

They don't do it in the cities in Afghanistan either. Shooting a gun in the air in an urban setting can hurt someone when those bullets come back down. The Zazi that live in Kabul or Peshawar, they actually go back to the village and shoot their gun off in the air. If they don't, others would tell them its not official or they are not keeping with tradition.

it's such a stupid thing to intimidate or pressurize people in to giving away their daughters to one. there is no point in promoting or suggesting something idiotic like this. whether pashtun or not, it's one of those customs that could use being tossed out through the window asap. whatever happened to building a character so people would be actually glad to have you join their family.

                        So,

You can't bully me, only God and the devil can.

I would happily give my unmarked sister to a man who could beat me to a duel. That's knocking two birds with one stone. I could finally leave this Earth, and my older sister can finally marry.

                        Or,

If the dudes not such a sissy pants, the girls side takes the guy out drinking. If he can down pure Alcohol, or atleast, a Four Loko then you could have her.

                        Or,

I have no clue since I'm 26, and no way near engagement

your older sister is not a pet that you will hand her over to whoever you lose a duel to. and there is more to life than getting married. gapaye beaqlee nazada bash, khord nesti.
