Thanks, Pashtana Jan----nice of you. I have observed that people of transitional identity e.g. Khosti Tajaks and Pekhawari Kharyan/Hindko speakers are averse to Pashtun unification although at the same time they have sense of solidarity with Pashtuns as well (Pashais, Nuristanis, etc. have the same attitude).

The Tajiks and Pashtuns in Afghanistan have gone through much together, and have almost become like brothers during the wars when they had to fight alongside one another in provinces where they live side by side, so that's why they have a sense of solidarity with one another.Originally posted by Toramana View PostThanks, Pashtana Jan----nice of you. And, the Nuristanis and Pashais are heavily mixed with Pashtuns to the point where some may identify themselves as Pashtuns. Most of them speak Pashto too, I know this because my mother's village rests next to Nuristan, and the Pashtuns and Nuristanis around those areas are heavily mixed with one another. So, they feel closer to the Pashtuns than say the Tajiks, therefore they don't feel as averse (or just neutral) towards Pashtun reunification than the Tajiks.
Tajiks and other minorities who speak Dari feel that if Pashtuns unite then they won't be heard by the new predominantly Pashtun government. They feel like their culture and identity will be threatened and they'll be treated like 2nd hand citizens. I guess it's understandable if you look at it through their point of view.Last edited by pashtanajan; 05-27-2012, 11:36 PM.True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us. - Socrates

originaly there were no other minoritis in Khost when I grew up there, but becuase Khost is developing now, tajiks from other provinces moved in for work, the same for hazara. I think you confusing Paktia whith Khost, in Paktia ethnic Tajiks have lived for generations.....Originally posted by Toramana View PostI have heard there are many ethnic Tajaks in Khost as well. Is that true Pashthanajan?

Again this Nowruz thing -_-.... There was whole discussion about it. I still consider nawa kol somthing that Pashtun have celebrated for a long time, my grandfather who is 80 told stories about nawa kol when he was littel, how they celebrated it and stuff, and he was born and lived in Khost his whole live, in that time Khost was part of Paktia and his village was a smal isolated one, I don't know how the persians have persianized him..... :SOriginally posted by pashtanajan View PostThey are closer to Persians in terms of their language and culture. For example, most of them follow Nowruz, and holidays that belong to the Persian culture, while Pashtuns don't really do that. But, Tajiks are mixed, and their culture is more oriental than the Persians from Iran. But, if you go to Herat or Farah, places that are closer to the Iran border, then you honestly will not be able to distinguish the difference between the Persians from there and Iran.
And there are a lot of Pashtuns that are Persianized, and it's usually because they've grown up in an area with a lot of Tajiks or Farsizubans or their mothers are actually Tajiks etc. Usually their fathers are Pashtuns while their mothers are Farsizubans, so you can't really blame them.
And about the half Pashtun half Tajiks why don't you said that in the begining? If you mother is Tajik its natural to have two cultures being mixed toghether but that don't repsresent majority of pashtuns. And you don't call them persianized pashtuns just mixed....
Becuase saing persianized PAshtun is someone whith pashtun faher and pashtun mother but have replaced pashtun culture whith that of the persians....Last edited by Khostai; 05-21-2012, 04:06 AM.
