Astrology, horoscopes, superstition and fortune-telling are all actions of jaahiliyyah (ignorance) which Islam came to show as false and to explain that they are shirk,
I suppose you don't watch the weather forecast on the News channel either because that too would be a form of shirk by the same logic...right?
More girls take psychology too.
They tend to be more ...intuned with the world, and its rythm, cycles, etc..
Here is an interesting observation I found in a medical jounral some time ago:
Br Med J (Clin Res Ed). 1984 December 22; 289(6460): 1789–1791.
PMCID: PMC1444800
Full moon and crime.
C P Thakur and D Sharma
The incidence of crimes reported to three police stations in different towns (one rural, one urban, one industrial) was studied to see if it varied with the day of the lunar cycle. The period of the study covered 1978-82. The incidence of crimes committed on full moon days was much higher than on all other days, new moon days, and seventh days after the full moon and new moon. A small peak in the incidence of crimes was observed on new moon days, but this was not significant when compared with crimes committed on other days. The incidence of crimes on equinox and solstice days did not differ significantly from those on other days, suggesting that the sun probably does not influence the incidence of crime. The increased incidence of crimes on full moon days may be due to "human tidal waves" caused by the gravitational pull of the moon.
I suppose you don't watch the weather forecast on the News channel either because that too would be a form of shirk by the same logic...right?
There is no logic in Islam. We are supposed to do what the prophet (pbuh) said.
Weather Forecast is not shirk because it is science. Scientists are not making up opinions, they are following rigorous scientific method.
The same way, if you say that if you drop a glass, it will break, it's a prediction but not shirk because the glass follow the Newton laws.
If you say that the way how the pieces of glass broken are placed on the floor can tell you about the future, it is shirk because it doesn't follow any scientific law rather it is superstition.
Come on, Alchemist, is it because of your Alchemist side ?
I'm joking but this is serious. You should say La ilaha ila Lah again.
Not only is the practice of astrology is Haraam, but also visiting an astrologer and listening to his predictions, buying books on astrology or reading one's horoscope are also forbidden. Since astrology is mainly used to predicting the future, those who practice it are considered fortunetellers. Consequently, one who seeks his horoscope comes under the ruling contained in the Prophet's statement: 'He who visits a soothsayer ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted [Saheeh Muslim Book 026, Number 5540]
(note that the prophet (pbuh) did not say anything about physicians in the hadiths even though they make scientific predictions so scientific predictions are lawful, superstition is unlawful)
The punishment in this hadeeth is simply for approaching the asking the astrologer, even if one is in doubt about the truth of his statements. If one is in doubt about the truth or falsehood of astrological information, he is in doubt about whether or not others know the unseen and the future besides Allaah. This is a form of shirk because Allaah clearly stated:
"And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in (or on) the earth and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but he knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record." [Surah Al-An'am (The Cattle) Verse 59]
Say: "None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghaib (unseen) except Allaah, nor can they perceive when they shall be resurrected." [Surah An-Naml (The Ants) Verse 65]
If, however, one believes in the predictions of their horoscope, whether spoken by an astrologer or written in books of astrology, he falls directly into kufr (disbelief) as stated by the Prophet : 'Whoever approaches an oracle or fortuneteller and believes in what he says, he has nothing to do with what has been sent down to Muhammad .' [Sunan Abu Dawood Book 29, Number 3895]
Like the previous Hadeeth, the Hadeeth literally refers to the fortuneteller but it is just as applicable to the astrologer. Both claim knowledge of the future. The astrologer's claim is just as opposed to the Tawheed as the ordinary fortuneteller. He claims that people's personalities are determined by the starts, and their future actions and the events of their lives are written in the starts. The ordinary fortuneteller claims that the formation of tea leaves at the bottom of a cup, or lines in a palm tell him the same thing. In both cases individuals claim the ability to read in the physical formation of created objects knowledge of the unseen.
Belief in astrology and the casting of horoscopes are in clear opposition to the letter and spirit of Islaam. It is really the empty soul, which has not tasted real eemaan (belief) that seeks out these paths. Essentially these paths, represents a vain attempt to escape Qadr (fate). The ignorant believe that if they know what is in store for them tomorrow, they can prepare from today. In that way, they may avoid the bad and ensure the good. Yet, Allaah's messenger was told by Allaah to say:
Say (O Muhammad ): "I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allaah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghaib (unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe." [Surah Al-A'raf (The Heights) Verse 188]
True Muslims are therefore obliged to stay far away from these areas. Thus, rings, chains, etc., which have the signs of the zodiac on them should not be worn, even if one does not believe in them. They are part and parcel of a fabricated system which propagates kufr and should be done away with entirely. No believing Muslim should attempt to guess his sign. Nor should he or she read horoscope columns in newspaper or listen to them read. And, any Muslim who allows astrological predictions to determine his actions, should seek Allaah's forgiveness and renew his Islaam. 67:5 (Asad) And, indeed, We have adorned the skies nearest to the earth with lights, Asad(67,4)[4] and have made them the object of futile guesses for the evil ones [from among men]: Asad(67,5)[5] and for them have We readied suffering through a blazing flame.
For the wider meaning of shayatin - a term which in this context points specifically to "the satans from among mankind, that is, the astrologers" (Baydawi) - see surah 15, note 16. As regards the term rajm (pl. rujum), which literally denotes the "throwing [of something] like a stone" - i.e., at random - it is often used metaphorically in the sense of "speaking conjecturally" or "making [something] the object of guesswork" (Jawhari, Raghib - the latter connecting this metaphor explicitly with the above verse -, Lisan al-‘Arab, Qamus, Taj al-'Arus, etc.). Cf. also 37:6-10.(Quran Ref: 67:5 )
its haram and i think every one knows that.
we shouldnt believe in anything like this things telling us about our lives.
only allah knows everything about us and this lives and everything.
I suppose you don't watch the weather forecast on the News channel either because that too would be a form of shirk by the same logic...right?
the weather forecast : so they are not sure about it and also they say allah al a'leem.
but let me tell you that in the weather forecast they dont use thier imagination or only thier knowledge, they use Machines to know everything about it...how the weather is going on and when its going to rain here or mybe after this place......etc
but also they only tell us about the weather in the short time...not after years, like its gona rain next year in afg at 2012/5/11.
i don't know that much about it but i know how its going on and also they sometime use the Artificial rain...etc.
they use thier knowledge and Machines and the history of the weather...etc...they guess too.
it is not Astrology.
Heres what Alchemist wror is talking about the characteristics personality habits ,not fortune telling or future or reading horoscopes as in what will happen next that's all haram but if you look at the characteristic.

I find it really hard to believe that the month that you were born in determines your personality.
And those horoscopes are so vague that they can apply to anyone and even then, half the time they are just plain wrong. I don't know why people bother with it.
E.g. for Sagitarius it says: Someone needs reassurance that you are on their side, so do what you can to oblige them in any way you can today. It might take all you’ve got, but the payoff will be worth it when it comes.
Nonsense.
When a horoscope coincedentally does happen to predict something for someone they start putting their trust into it and start believing in them. It's sad when people actually pay for daily horoscopes.
It's all mumbo jumbo to me but each to their own.
--- To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
own inclinations and desires.
Would you say that a calendar predicts the future too?
...November = Fall. March= Spring...Oh astaghfirallah ...shirk shirk shirk....
Astrology in essence means that the movement of the heavenly bodies has an influence on our psychy.
Only fools would go about thinking that their future can be foretold to them by the patterns of the stars. The kind of gambling fools who think that there are software programs that can accurately predict the likelyhood of one sports team over another...or that could predict the fluctuations of the stock market.

what are you talking about? seasons are seasons. no one is saying that the first day of winter will be a snow storm.... it's just a name for that time of the year
whereas a horoscope tells you how good or bad your day will be LOL

There is no logic in Islam. We are supposed to do what the prophet (pbuh) said.
There is Logic in Islam. But no logic in what you are saying.
Technically speaking, we are suppose to do what Allah said.
The holy prophet (pbuh) did not sanction the collection of his sayings and actions -ahadith. This was a bidah...an innovation that followed later.
Weather Forecast is not shirk because it is science. Scientists are not making up opinions, they are following rigorous scientific method.
The same way, if you say that if you drop a glass, it will break, it's a prediction but not shirk because the glass follow the Newton laws.
That is BS.
There is no coarse on "weather forecasting". You can study meteorology but you don't need a degree in meteorology to become a weather forecaster.
Let's say BBC ...they have a 50% accuracy rate for predicting the weather.
Still you lack logic because you are saying that "It is not shirk if it is science". But what is science and what is "scientific method"? Did you know that Sir Isaac Newton was an advocate of Astrology?
The problem is that you are ignorant of what Astrology is.
Take for instance the ratio of the size of the Earth to the Moon....
The earth squares the moon with 99.999% accuracy. There is a Qadr, a due measure. The same 3:11 proportion can be found between other celestial objects.
If you say that the way how the pieces of glass broken are placed on the floor can tell you about the future, it is shirk because it doesn't follow any scientific law rather it is superstition.
You are trying to validate Islam by washing it with science?
You are doing a disservice to Islam.
A moment ago you said "there is no logic in Islam" and now you are looking for it?
We are told that there is a Sign and a meaning in Everything He has created. So if you were to follow the creed of science, there is no meaning in objects. Whatever meanings are derived from them are subjective projections. This is not true ...since the issue is not whether Astrology is true or false. There are people who can know of significant events by observing the stars. For example, the priest of Pharaoh knew of the coming of Moses by looking at the stars. A jewish scholar in Medina predicted that the Holy prophet peace be upon him would migrate to Medina because he saw that his star was born.
You are trying to invalidate Astrology by saying that it is not a science, and since it is not a science it is not Islamic. This argument is fallacious on both counts.
Come on, Alchemist, is it because of your Alchemist side ?
I'm joking but this is serious. You should say La ilaha ila Lah again.[/B]

You know ... I agree with you. Horoscopes aren't an exact science. Though We know that we are interconnected with the world around us, we don't know how that influence exists. Muslims scholars in the past have tried to learn how...but not every lay man can. However...we have been instructed to observe the sky, the seasons, the stars, and become mindful of the awe and majesty of Allah.
Also, if I were you...I wouldn't rely on Mr. Muhammad Asad's tafsirs so much (aka Leopold Weiss, the polish jewish convert)...he converted to Islam through the efforts of a Abdullah Jabar khairi ...a Qadiani. And others, and myself, suspect him to be a closet-qadiani. Some of his interpretations are skewed.
what are you talking about? seasons are seasons. no one is saying that the first day of winter will be a snow storm.... it's just a name for that time of the year
whereas a horoscope tells you how good or bad your day will be LOL
O.o
thats what i am saying....
I don't think you know what astrology is.
You seem to think it is synonymous with soothsaying and fortunetelling when it is not. Your generic pop version of a horscope found on the back of a magazine is only child's play...
Just to give you an idea ...Western horoscopes are tropical, the first of the zodiac, aries is March 21 (the first day of spring)..and has been since 1500 BC. However Vedic, and even some (very few) modern horoscopes are sidereel horoscope and they take into account the precession of the equinoxes (or as is seen)...so really where Aries was back then isn't where it is now...aries (the constellation) begins April 15th in this year (and the increment changes by a 1 day every 70 years)! So correctly identified ... I am not a virgo .. I am actually a leo...but I am telling you by what is popularly accepted in modern culture - the tropical horoscope ...which is also used in Afghan calendar. So I can't even get serious about this because most don't even know that difference exist.
