BLS locked this thread however since I am mentioned in a conversational exchange, I feel it only correct that I come in and clarify some possible misconceptions.
Whilst Graveyard and Toromana are free to hold their particular views and mould their opinions around them, they operate, like Luffy does, within their own scope of emotional bias. If I have publicly rejected Graveyard making statements about other Members' families when he has insinuated that they are connected to Heera Mandi, know that there are several occasions when I have rejected much of what Luffy has posted as nothing but sensationalism on his part. A quick scroll back to the post that he makes about poor Afghans selling daughters being beggars is there to provoke; nothing else. He is just as wrong.
For Toromana to assert that I somehow endorse Luffy's view is also reflective of his own narrow bias, since this is not true and Luffy and I do not share a common platform on many, perhaps even most issues.
There are many members here who make valid and salient points, including Graveyard, Toromana and Luffy. They represent particular political, cultural and tribal biases. There are times when I agree with what they say. There are times when I don't. What I aim to do, in my role, is to allow a fair degree of open communication. I step in, as all the Mods do, when there is a significant breach or when the communication between Members breaks down and turns to in-fighting. I therefore fully support BLS's initial decision to freeze this thread.
Primarily, there is a slight difference in the "freedom" of Member and the "responsibility" of the Moderator or Administrator. It is about balance, though it is not an exact science. Thus, since I don't openly adopt a particular political or religious viewpoint, it doesn't mean that I have shown an automatic bias. My view maybe just as valid if I were posting as a regular Member and not an Adminstrator.
When Luffy/Aab-e-Hayat speaks, then Graveyard is likely to be offended. If I mute Luffy, I stand being accused of censorship. Conversely, when Toromana sets up a thread on tribal stereotypes, some would argue that it is divisive. Personally, I did not to take part in that thread, but there are many threads I don't join in with. There may, however, be a valid reason for a thread like the tribal stereotypes thread or this one, since it allows discourse. These are the merits of allowing people to express themselves. Like I say, this is not an exact science.
But there are clear breaches. Graveyard's decision to call other Members the products of Heera Mandi was flagged up and reported. What should have happened was simple. I added a staff note, which I felt served as a reminder. My hope would always be that the fact that I cut Graveyard some slack, would allow the poster to understand that whilst he doesn't quite 'get away with it', the matter is noted and next time I would step up my action. I should have added an infraction to Graveyard's profile and sent him a warning. Instead, I tried a different tact.
For me, it is not about personal agendas and Luffy, is not a stranger to my action. I have and reserve the right to redress in the interests of the forum.
