Saying sorry & thanks excessively lowers the worth of your apologies & gratitude.
On the other hand, not saying them enough, or at all, makes you a pretentious snob
(of course provided something was done that actually objectively deserves thanking or an apology).
It's really not hard to find a balance but few people do.---
To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
own inclinations and desires.
-Imam al Ghazali

"The spirit, o people, avoids the path of wiser on unwillingly, but returns thereto willingly. And in youth is a whirlwind that blows the dust and the sands and carries them along and fills the eye to close and blind it. The conscience is a judge, just and weak, and weakness stands in the way of its carrying out of judgment. A man knows not in what manner the spirit is freed from matter until after it is freed. Neither knows he how a flower smiles save after the coming of morning."
"To burn always with this hard gemlike flame, to maintain this ecstasy, is success in life."
