I look really good in this type of clothing but I never wear it - for that very reason.

Shalwar is not just used in Afghanistan and subcon, but from India to Turkey to name trousers/pants. Have you seen Turkish Lebanese Syrian Kurdish shalwar?Originally posted by Pakwatan View Post@Kush Prince.
Alright Afghan, you win. Just skyped with my uncle and he said shalwar kameez comes from Afghanistan.
It's worn unlike partog, with shirt tucked in and with a cummerbund and waistcoat - and it's called shalwar.

Khan saab, I don't care for the origins so much. However, I have to say that shalwar kameez is my clothes of choice. I feel very comfortable in shalwar kameez. So whoever brought it, I am very thankful.Originally posted by torkham View PostShalwar is not just used in Afghanistan and subcon, but from India to Turkey to name trousers/pants. The Kurdish variant looks more like a one piece suit unlike the Pashtun variant which comes in 2 pieces. Although you are correct that Shalvar just means shirt.Originally posted by torkham View PostShalwar is not just used in Afghanistan and subcon, but from India to Turkey to name trousers/pants. If you are more interested in the origins of the Shalvar, maybe this quote will give us a clear insight on its origins;
Scythian's wore flowing tunics, loose trousers and sometimes capes
And the Scythian's themselves were an eastern iranic people from Sakastan (Modern day South Afg.) Also Arabs wear pants under their long white robes as well, but i doubt it is indigenous to their culture.Last edited by Kushan Prince; 05-31-2014, 03:45 AM."Revenge is a dish best served cold".

Dude I really don't give two solid ****s. Shalwar kameez is comfortable to me and I wear it even in the US on the daily. I remember whities were surrounding me at my apartment complex as I was was changing my oil in shalwar kameez.
If shalwar kameez is Afghan dress than I have to commend Afghans for bringing us such nice clothes.
