I saw 15 seconds of the video and I didn't want to watch this any longer. To be honest its all a joke, wheres the islam in this? I remember going to the weddings quite a long time ago..there was no music, no big do just a simple hall was rented out so people would just eat and go. Nowadays people go as far as putting themselves in complete debt to make such a "wonderful" wedding, what is this world coming to eh.
Whats wrong with simple nikaah and a small do with close family and friends?

I'm not really terribly drawn to Indian/Pakistani culture for the most part; but there are some pleasant and appreciable aspects of it. I am really attracted to the way women look in Saris and Lenghas, in fact I don't mind if my spouse wore those things in private, except during/for the wedding/marriage.
I'm also extremely drawn to North African clothing for women too. Moroccan/Algerian Kaftans are modest but extremely flattering on women. Asian/Oriental dresses are very attractive too.
I love stuff like this

this isn't a wedding dress but I love traditional Hadrami clothes (Hadrami refers to Hadramout a province of Yemen

Once they were making this big deal about having a divider between the men and women (of course that's a good thing) but the hypocrisy about it was that at one point of the wedding the girls were actually dancing where even the men could see them >.<
And the were making such a big deal about having the dividers, but they didn't mind if the girls go up and sit with the bride and groom to take pictures in front of all the men and women! I suggested that the bride sit with the women and the groom sit with the men but no one listened to me LOL
haha actually the most ridiculous one i have heard/seen so far is they put the men and women in separate rooms, but the bride AND groom sit in front of the women
that makes NO sense, but ok....... ?

i wish i had spent hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars on my wedding (if i had that much money, that is). its the best part of my life... the best beginning of another phase ... for those who have a happy marriage afterwards, i am sure they don't regret spending the money on their wedding.

that's the problem; so much focus on one day of a person's life rather than the expanse of life itself. Such waste of resources for such shallow concerns.
Even if one has hundreds of thousands of dollars, just on principle of ethical decency it would be disgraceful and an insult to the institution of marriage to spend that much. Imagine how many poor family's one can help with such resources, but rather one wants to subscribe to self centered extravagance for some superficial pretense that doing so makes it more special.
This is why Rome fell.

Your family needs a useful hobby (I'd say intellectual hobby, but never mind) because, you know, dear Kakargirl, they seem to gossip so much - you know, talking about how un-Pukhtun other Pukhtuns whose practices don't match theirs and all. I mean, honestly, that's ALL your family appears to be talking about, how beghairat other Pukhtuns are. Introduce them to reading, guley; it can do wonders!Originally posted by kakargirl View Postwrora

Or, better yet, remind them that zghebat/gheebah is haraam in Islam.

My family and many other decent families are critical too of these things..why? Because its disgusting and kids should be made aware that this is what they should NOT be wearing. Would you like your young girls to be wearing these and following this culture?Originally posted by Roshina View PostYour family needs a useful hobby (I'd say intellectual hobby, but never mind) because, you know, dear Kakargirl, they seem to gossip so much - you know, talking about how un-Pukhtun other Pukhtuns whose practices don't match theirs and all. if i had hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on my wedding, i would be a millionaire... so i wouldn't have to worry about not being able to give charity... there would be plenty to share to the poor.Originally posted by ScimitarXEdge View Postthat's the problem; so much focus on one day of a person's life rather than the expanse of life itself. i agree with you brother ... marriage should only come in picture when one has established his or her identity. i am not a fan of marriages at early age.Originally posted by unknownprincekhor, Yes, marriage is a part of life, but I think the mistake some make is they make it the sole purpose of life. I have seen people who get married very early lose all their ambition in life (men especially).
In this day and age, it is better to have a simple event, and give the money that you were going to spend to the poor (in Afghanistan at first obviously).
Excessive spending on weddings should be avoided when there are those who are starving.

and trust me... even if the whole world's wealth is to be poured in afghanistan, the situation won't change.... there are too many thieves sitting there to steal

aww roshina khorai mine and your worlds are too different places, i come from a royal family where our worlds would never cross with you so stop worrying your safe you will never even meet me in reality what you do is your choice what my family thinks is our choice , but even when i posted i knew i would get a response from you or someone like you, i'm not going to stop typing what i feel because then i would be lieing i really don't care what you think , as i said our worlds are too different worlds my thoughts are the majority of the pashtuns beliefs in kandahar helmand and a few other places, and my family are far too smart for me i wish a stronger member out of my family was here to give you a better more interlectual answer, you think your so smart your gossiping too when you say my family needs a hobby in reality my family are far too busy they have too much work to do back home my father is a retired scientist but even in his old age hes back home helping out the poor who need us, trying to give them finacial means to feed their family to get their kids married in simple ways we think of others not just our selfs or what we need, so keep your advice to your self we don't need it , dosnt matter how much you hate me i would rather be hated for speaking my mind than to be liked for following your herd .Originally posted by Roshina View PostYour family needs a useful hobby (I'd say intellectual hobby, but never mind) because, you know, dear Kakargirl, they seem to gossip so much - you know, talking about how un-Pukhtun other Pukhtuns whose practices don't match theirs and all. oh yeah? Let them see it as such then; it is only their own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy that makes them perceive it as so. I know what my intentions are here. We're human beings not robots, how many times even in the poetry of Ahmad Shah Baba did he comment about the "sra shondey de mayena". Even the most Noble of Men, Even the Qur'an Sharif describes the Hour Al 'Ayn of Jannah; how then can it be inappropriate to talk what one finds appealing or not appealing?
We should retain moral standards, but don't go to extremes and exaggerate things out of context; we should be logical. When Islaam advices decency and modesty; it was to guard sanctity of women, not deny that were are attracted to women. lolLast edited by ScimitarXEdge; 02-08-2011, 05:33 PM.
