  • Sunan Kudus Mosque (Java, Indonesia)

The Menara Kudus Mosque or Al-Manar Mosque is located in Kudus in
the Indonesian province of Central Java. Dating from 1549, it is one of the
oldest mosques in Indonesia, built at the time of Islam's spread through
    Java
. The mosque preserves the tomb of Sunan Kudus, one of the nine
    Islamic saints of Java (the
Wali Sanga), and it is a popular pilgrimage point.

It preserves pre-Islamic architectural forms such as old Javanese split

doorways, ancient Hindu-Buddhist influenced Majapahit-style red
brickwork, and a three-tired pyramindal roof. The most unusual feature
is the brick minaret on which a pavilion shelters a large skin drum (
    bedug)
which is used to summon the faithful to prayer instead of the more
    common muezzin. Whereas a
bedug normally hangs under the eaves of a
mosque verandah, in the Kudus Mosque it sits in a tower like a Balinese
    Hindu temple
kul-kul or signal drum used to warn of impending attack, fire,
or communal event. No other mosque in Java is known to have a drum
    tower of this type.

In front of the minaret and around the compound are walls and gateways

    in the old
candi bentar (split gate) and kori agung (main gate) styles.
Inside are two gateways—a smaller, inner gate with relief panels on either
side similar to those found in Mantingan, and an outer gate that is
reminiscent of the 14th-century Bajang Ratu gate at Trowulan. Other
    pre-Islamic touches include 8
kala-head water spouts in the ablution area
and Ming procelain plates set in the walls.

    An inscription over the
mihrab says the mosque was founded by Ja'far
Shodiq in AH 956 (AD 1549). He is believed to be the venerated Sunan
    Kudus
one of the nine Islamic saints of Java (Wali Sanga) who lies buried in
an elaborately carved mausoleum behind the mosque. The complex
includes a Mogul-style mosque with a silvery onion-dome and concrete
    pillars.

    A very unique mosque.

          • Yes, a very sad state of affairs.
The mosque is where someone comes closer to Allah.
Very sad when cowards attack a peaceful place especially on fridays aiming to kill as many as possible while they are praying.

The day a Muslim becomes afraid of visiting the mosque is a very sad day indeed.

              • Abdul Rahman Mosque (Kabul, Afghanistan)

The Haji Abdul Rahman Mosque (مسجد حاجی عبدالرحمان ), also known as the
Grand Mosque of Kabul, is one of the largest mosques in Afghanistan,
located in the middle of downtown area of Afghanistan's capital city, Kabul.
It sits in a busy commercial area of the city, near the Pashtunistan square
and across from the deteriorating Plaza Hotel. The mosque has the
capacity to serve 10,000 people at a time.[1]

The building was initially designed by Afghan architect Mir Hafizullah
Hashimi.[citation needed] Construction of the mosque began in late 1990s
when the Taliban were in power but was suspended for several years after
the recent war in Afghanistan began in late 2001. Work resumed in 2003
after Saudi Arabia decided to pay for the remaining construction costs.
The mosque, which was completed in late 2009, also has a large madrasah school.

The mosque is named after an influential businessman named Haji Abdul
Rahman[citation needed] who had laid the foundation stone back in 1990s but
then died. His grandsons continued the project until it was finished.

                          Tatar Mosque (Navahrudak, Belarus)

This is one of around 20 surviving mosques on the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It stands in the town of Navahrudak (Polish Nowogródek) in western Belarus. It was built in 1855 (a previous mosque in the town was built in 1792) for a Tatar community of 300 people. After the annexation of these lands into the USSR the mosque was turned into a living house and most of the Muslims emigrated to Poland. It was re-established as a mosque and renovated in 1993 by the current imam Ali Szegidewicz.
