Mosques

[Haris]

Post images of mosques from across the world here so we can all appreciate the beauty of Islamic architecture.

We must start with

Masjid Al Haram (Mecca, Saudi Arabia)

Blue Mosque (Mazar i Sharif, Afghanistan)

[faye]

that blue mosque is something, isn't it? i saw that in 1977. lovely.

[Laila]

Its a mosque in Northern Afghanistan, Mazar-e Sharif

[faye]

thaks laila, still haven't had my morning coffee. i saw the one in turkey. they all look beautiful though. i love muslim architecture. i hope they keep it up and don't go westernised like most developing countries do.

You mean like this?

Faisal Mosque (Islamabad, Pakistan)

It looks terrible in my opinion.

[faye]

yes. it looks too spiky and harsh. the roundness of the others and the intricate work that went into them is beauty.
