Salam. I have been lurking on these forums as a guest but I have finally made an account as I wanted to participate in all these discussions and debates as well as ask some questions of my own.
My own background is that I am a Pashtun born and raised in America who hails from the Pakistani side of the Durand Line. Specifically, we are originally from Nowshera(our village is Ziarat Kaka Sahib) although my family has long since moved out and most of us live in Peshawar and Islamabad. My tribal information is a bit complicated as we don't come from any of the established Pashtun tribes; We are part of a small clan descended from a Turkish Sufi saint by the name of Akhund Adyan Baba(His shrine is in Akora Khattak) who settled among the pashtuns and was adopted by them. We are identified by several names including Seljukis, Qazis, and Qazis of Ziarat Kaka Sahib, although I would say Seljuki is the proper name of our tribe. But that isn't to say we don't have any relations with established tribes. My maternal grandmother is a Yusufzai from Swabi and half of my relatives are of that background as we are heavily married into them. My paternal grandmother is a Khattak from Nowshera although not as many of my relatives are Khattaks.
Even though I am born and raised in the United States because of my parent's effort as well as frequent visits to Pakistan I speak fluent pashto(I'm okay but still lacking with reading and writing) although my vocabulary and exposure to different dialects is lacking due to not spending enough time with Pashtuns outside of my family and the other few pashtuns we have where I live. Alhamdulliah I also strongly identify as a Pashtun as well as a Sunni Muslim.
My personal hobbies are reading, study of subjects that interest me, and writing. Specifically I am interested in Islamic studies and religion in general, as well as philosophy, history, linguistics, and politics. I am also interested in Economics and other social sciences although I haven't invested myself in them too much. I have noticed many intelligent people on this forum and I hope to discuss all this.
Having said this, though, there are some questions I would like to ask about this forum the answers to which will decide whether I continue to use it.
1. I have noticed there are many trolls and people with strange personalities as well as non-pashtuns posing as Pashtuns to cause trouble. They often derail threads and I wonder how much influence they have on the thread.
2. Is this place safe? Donald Trump's administration is very harsh and I am concerned that using this website could get me in trouble with the government. There is no radical messaging here but unfortunately the Feds can make something out of nothing if you're Muslim and Pashtun.
And that's it. Hope being on this forum ends up being a great experience!
Salam.
