  • Hello All!!

    Hello All.

My name is Mr Logar. Let me tell you guys a little of my journey to get here.

I unfortunately don't know Pashto (only English and spoken Farsi ) but thought that perhaps this forum and its awesome members would be a good start in me learning some. I have travelled to Afghanistan in the past and it was very awkward when all my family speak Pashto and I am the only one sitting quietly because I don't know a word!

So I am at that age where parents and aunties (khalas) etc. pester you to marry. Eventually they found someone...Trouble is they speak pashto....

So here I am, sad that it took me so long to get motivated to learn, but hey we all have to start somewhere!!

I bought a book titled "Speaking Afghan Pashto" by Randall Olson and also found the MP3 files on this forum! Although that is a start I have no one to practice the language with.

Anyhow that is my story, what is yours?

Nice to meet you guys and look forward to talking with you!
    MR LOGAR.

    welcome/pa khair raglay.

    Mr logar.
    Enjoy your stay here.
    so your family speak pashtu?
So where did you learn farsi from?
If your parents are pashtuns then they should teach you pakhtu not farsi.
like many afghan-pashtuns they too adopted the language of tajiks.
This is realy sad why afghan-pashtuns look down up on pashtu language.
Will a tajik talk to his children in pashtu?
If not then whats wrong with pakhtuns?

Logar is a province with pashtun majority over 50% but the farsi influence is there.
Many logari pashtana i have seen talk in pashtu but a good number of them speak farsi at home.
pashtuns should keep their language and culture alive.

Support pashto language and greater pukhtoonkhwa.

The trouble is my father speaks pashto and my mother farsi, but due to me spending more time with my mom and her family and the fact that my dad spoke farsi at home with us means I didn't pick up the language. Also growing up all my life outside of Afghanistan certainly did not help!

Well thats funny because, here I am trying to learn the language because of my future wife (her family dont speak farsi). Hence, even though I may have become "tajik" my children will be learning pashtu. So I guess it depends greatly on what language the mother speaks.

Yes every culture and language has its own beauty and should be preserved....which is what I hopefully aim to achieve. I am happy that I have realised this fact now, sadly many of my extended family that live here cant even speak farsi or pashto, let alone know anything about the culture.

The site I posted the link above for will be a great help for people who are in learning phase of Pashto.

It is more or less a Pashto dictionary. Great for people who lives outside Afghanistan and Pakistan, since the site have the pashto word also spelled in western alphabet.

The site was originally posted by bannu mazigar. I couldn't find the topic he had posted in, so I reposted here.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

Pa khair raghley , hila laram che xa ba ye , der umbarak sha che wada de nejdey dey , kor de wadan

I will strongly advise to practice Pashto with your father or if possible with your fiancee or any Pashtun.

Language is a skill and it can be improved only and only with practice not by having knowledge of the language by mere reading. Similarly I will strongly recommend that you read all the posts of this thread and start asking questions at the end.

Learn and understand the Pashto language and its many dialects by referring to many well documented guides and conversations produced by forum members.

Trouble is I don't see my family often as I am in a different city for university. Plus I dont think I will be talking much to my fiancee much until the wedding!! They are in Afghanistan, correct me if I am wrong but I think its considered "sharm" to be talking with her too much hahaha!

But yes I will try my best to use the language practically, and thankyou for the link.

                        Manana aw kor de wadan.
