True, momands of modern history are concentrated in nangarhar (hazarnaw, momand darra, gerdi, gushta), in kunarr and the agency in kpk. Question is when did get there.

But there are urban, city momands, i know families living in kandahar, in ghazni, in mazar and a few in herat (last two are dari speakers).

According to Wardags, the area currently known as Wardag was occupied by Momands until the arrival of the Mongols resulting in them being driven out. This being before the Wardags invaded and recaptured the lands and those lands subsquently being named after the invading Wardags. The encroachment of these Wardags continued for centuries and this can be seen with the districts of Jaghatu & Dai Mirdad (both names of tribes of Mongol descendants) now being solidly Wardag Pukhtun.

"Sayydabad has a rich Karez history. It is said that the Pashtun tribe Mommand came to the area around 1000 years ago and were the first people to construct a Karez. The Karezes were destroyed and rebuilt by the invading Hazaras who drove out the Mommands. The Hazaras were in turn driven out by the Pashtun tribe Wardak, who invaded the region, also destroying and then rebuilding the Karez systems." - Social Realities of Karez System in Sayydabad District of Wardak, pg 9-10

"It was not until the 16th century and the early part of the following century that the Uzbegs were forced beyond the Hindu-Kush and the vacant lands that existed in all districts were available for the Afghans to occupy . . . Some time in the 13th or 14th century the Mongols expelled the Momands and Khalils from their possessions in the valley, from Kalat-i-Ghilzai, towards Kabul, including Ghazni, Shashgau, Haftasia and Haidar Khel. The tribes then wandered down the valley of the Kabul, and seized the lands they now occupy turning out the Dilazaks, who were driven across the Indus into Chach. The Wardak clan deprived the Hazaras subsequently of the lands they had taken from the Momands and the Khallils to the north of Ghazni." - page 14, The Kingdom of Afghanistan: A Historical Sketch, George Passman Tate, 1911

I wonder if any of the Momands here can confirm this?
