Yup i heard similar. The historic momand started from kandahar, moved to nangarhar, then settled north of tapai tattar, what is now kpk, esp mohmand agency(Why they still insist on calling it agency - PK suffering a british hangover after the big raj party).

In AF urban momand are in most big cities, eg ghazni, mazar, kabul, kandahar, qabalai momand are concentrated in momand darra nangarhar and in kunarra.

My tabar started in zabul, headed for sarobi, now i will move closer to kabul.

so far i know about Momand from traditional sources, they are situated in Kunar Momanfd and Bajaur and to an extent in Jalalabad.
in kabul there are also some momands who cnt speak pashto
Lala guv, i referred to historic momands, from stories of neeka' of momands tell of a migration. Its like stories of sons of qais, mysteries or fables, i dont know.

True, momands of modern history are concentrated in nangarhar (hazarnaw, momand darra, gerdi, gushta), in kunarr and the agency in kpk. Question is when did get there.

But there are urban, city momands, i know families living in kandahar, in ghazni, in mazar and a few in herat (last two are dari speakers).

There is a load of Mohmands in the rural areas of Kandahar. You can't really find them in the city though. City is dominated by other major tribes.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

                    -Ferishta, 1560–1620
