who did, in my opinion, by FAR and away, the BEST photography in Afghanistan pre-Soviet war [and probably
ever after !]. They have an unrivaled feel for the people and the land.
No American photographer got anywhere near them.

They also did National Geographic articles on Hunza and environs, and
      the Wakhi as well.
Im impressed you noticed where I got it from. I agree they do have great photography. I like their photography of buzkashi, the game on horses.

Ghazni Pakhtuns are 90% Ghiljai...Tarakai, Hotak, Tokhi, Andar, Kharoti, Wardag etc

I dont know how the Kakars ended up there. Either we rolled with the great Sultan or resisted him viciously and were transported back as slaves. No clue tho...

You think its rude that I want to put Islam first and question culture?
I have every right to question his culture i'm trying to understand it and it will be a part of my life and my childrens lives. And i'm not willing to accept any part of it that has no basis in Islam. So yes I will question EVERY culture unless it strictly follows Quran and Sunnah. And it certainly is necessary as I will be living there. Thank you for your advice.

Thanks for your advice but I would have to disagree. Islam is a way of life. Everything we do is determined by Quran and Sunnah. It was sent as thee last guidance from Allah and it is perfect, its all we need to lead a good life, we don't need any culture to follow, Islam replaces all of that. Quran and Sunnah advise in much more than just the five pilliars and morality...

No, you have no right to question flaws in his background infront of us. Go ask these questions from your husband directly.
You should have investigated these things before marrying him. Now you are asking stupid questions that why pashtuns are violent people, dont educate their women blah blah...i am sure your husband is educated, neither he is carrying gun , talking of revenge and other BS nor he has prevented his sisters from getting education.

This is the approach of Taliban and all extremist Wahabi Salafi Muslims that every thing is determined by Islam and hence they challenge the thousands years old culture like Pashtunwali. These Taliban have destroyed the paradise on earth the enchanting valley of Swat and the whole Pashtunland.

How can one ignore culture and society which is not based on religion. Religion just determines your beliefs, modes of worship and ethics but nothing beyond that. How can you impose the Arab nomadic culture of desert on the green valley of Swat. Where in Quran God has imposed the Arab culture on Pashtuns in the name of Islam.

Read the holy Quran and you will only find injunctions on faith, worship and ethics but nothing on culture. All ethnic groups are free to follow whatever culture they have in their countries or areas.

Pashtuns are 7000 years old Pashtuns and 1400 years old Muslims. They are Muslims only religiously but not culturally.

advice from a non-Pashtun. Try to understand the nature of Pashtun tribalism, its history rather than to question everything in advance.
I am also sure you have heard about Hanafi fiqh.

Forgive me my question - what's the point to enter into a Pashtun family if you are going to question their culture, tradition, heritage?

oh come on, she wants to understand it. If she is going to live in pashtunland, she needs to understand the pashtun culture. When I came to America, I was questioning the American culture. The idea of individuality was foreign to me and I never really understood it until I learrned the structure of the American society.

define religion and define culture and explain how they are mutually exclusive because you are confused.
