There is not much mention of the Bengali Pala dynasty in Bangladesh, as Bangladeshis are more focused on their post-Islamic history.

Islam is the defining element of the Bangladeshi identity. We exist because of Islam.
Even before Pakistan came in to being in the 1940s, fourty years earlier we broke away to have a Muslim-majority East Bengal, the first such event in the history of the subcontinent, thus we are the pioneers of Muslim nationalism in South Asia.

Also we are the biggest concentration of Muslims in South Asia, the biggest single Muslim ethnic group (almost twice as much as Punjabis).

West Bengal has the highest percentage of Muslims in India, with only Kashmir having a higher portion.

The Mughals (Turks) are disliked and seen as non-Bengali as they were racist and kept a barrier.

The Pashtuns e.g. Isa Khan mixed with the local Bengalis and became Bengali and are seen as national heroes. In the same way a religious Bosnian or Albanian would see the Ottoman Empire as heroes, or a Turk (of Bosnian/Albanian origin) would identify with Islam and Turkishness, though originally his people were Christian and European.

Bangladeshis are not like (secular) Turks who identify with their pre-Islamic empires or traditions.

        Bengali Pala Empire.

Interesting, i never knew about these empires from the bengal region. they also included pakistan and afghanistan region? never knew this. Was this empire there just before islam came?

          welcome!
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Just because one Pashtun ruled over Bengaldesh does not mean Pashtuns and Bengalis have cultural roots. Allahverdi Khan was a Gerogian general of the Iranian army some 500 years back, does that mean Iranians and georgians have racial or cultural links to.

I saw this forum as I was searching something about bengalis. I am a British Bengali and I am really interested in Anthropology, especially asian anthropology.
I am most interested in 1st bengali anthropology, then islamic anthropology, then indonesian anthropology.
Across my searchings on the net about culture i have been directed here to these forums a few times
I have read what I needed to, then left, but I have noticed "Bengal Tigger's" comments a lot, as well as on defence.pak forum thing and i think on yahoo answers.

I just had to quickly join coz I cudnt take this anymore, the idea that he was representing of Bengalis.

Bengal Tiger, I have nothing against you, you probably are a nice person, but it needs to be known the views you have are not held by 99.99% of bengalis.

I am a sylheit bengali in london and I can tell you I am extremely proud of being bengali and everything about it, the only thing that makes me feel guilty is hwen I remember Islam;s teachings on nationalism, so I reconcile it with being proud of being Muslim, Bengali and British.

However, the key thing I , as well as my entire extended family, and all my bengali friends are so not up afghan's asses! This sounds quite rude, but i dont know how to phrase it. Afghans are generally nice people and I like them a lot, just as much as I like Pakistanis, you bengal tiger, seem to have this bias towards pakistanis and thinking afghans are with us and are so amazing. You shouldnt hate either or play either against each other, like you did on that topix website.

As a whole, we bengalis are NOT proud of being colonised by foreigners, and for everyone's information, believe it or not, we are not one of those people who have colonised by others so much!

Afghanistan has been ruled for millennia by the persians, then turks (ghaznavid, ghorid etc) but like Bengal and China etc have had period of domestic rule. It is a fact that before Imperialism and colonialism, different people of Asia and Africa ruled over different areas of territory.

The Qing dynasty of china was led my manchu not han chinese (1644-1911)
                  yuan dynasty was mongol run.

achaaemenid empire in afghanistan (persian), sassanid in afghanistan (persian), abassid (arab), ghaznavid (turk), pala (bengali), ghorid (turk), timurid (tatar)
                  and Durrani was domestic (Afghan)

Most peoples in asia are roughly similar in their levels of foreign rule.

Bangladeshis tend to be a very rural peoples and they have always been more gregarious than Pakistanis or Indians.

                                1. I have never posted on defence.pk forum and am not a member, contrary to your dubious claims.

                                Good try, but fail.

                                2. I have never posted on yahoo answers.

                                3. Your entire post was about me and constant mentioning of my nick. Bengal Tiger this, Bengal Tiger that, Bengal Tiger etc etc.

                                4. You are entitled to your views, but it is clear from your posts you lack depth and lack life experience. The person who knows me the best on this forum is Pakhtunzai and he himself is a Pakistani and knows what Pakistanis really think of Bengalis.

                                5. Afghanistan is a brother Muslim nation just like Turkey or Malaysia. I am not calling for a confederation with them, and to belittle them or point out any shortcomings they have is inappropriate in a Pashtun/Afghan forum.

We are separated by over 1,000 miles and have no border. In my posts I regularly highlight the positive achievements of other Muslim countries including Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Qatar etc.

You know very little about me except for your false claims that I post in defence.pk, and I actually wrote a post a while back saying Bangladesh should have as little possible involvement in Afghanistan if Bangladeshi citizens there are being killed (this was after some Bangladeshi engineers were killed by the Taliban).

However Afghans are far better than Pakistanis any day.

                                6. My views do not represent Bangladesh or Bengalis, (and nor do yours) they are my own personal views. My views are different to other Bangladeshis in that most of them care very little about Pakistan whereas I have a passionate hostility to it. I am also far more patriotic.

                                7. Go to Karachi, Oldham, Manchester etc and see how Pakistanis treat Bengalis.

                                8. I have a genuine respect for Pakhtoon culture, I have known one of the ex-Chaikhaana members (not that you would even know what that is) for 10 years (obviously even before Chaikhaana existed). We used to speak about Pashtun and Pakistan affairs, amongst other things, by email from that time onwards.

So I did not play people up in Topix you ignorant liar.

You on the other hand clearly know very little about Pashtuns and what Pashtun nationalists did for the Bengali people in 1971, including risking imprisonment to protest at the genocide, also Pashtun soldiers refused to commit atrocities against Bengali civilians, some even joined our side. A Pashtun uncle in London joined Bengalis against fellow Pakistanis (Punjabis) in a mosque dispute. As Mohmand, a Libyan, even said Pashtuns (rural ones that is, not a lot of the garbage on this forum) are simple, honest people with huge hearts. As another Bangladeshi (a real Bangladeshi and not a Paki wannabe who defends Pakis online) said in a Bangladeshi military forum Pashtuns are "the true defenders of Islam" and defeated the British, and the USSR. To be honest though, my admiration is primarily for Pashtunkhwa Pashtuns.

                                9. I know far more about Pakistanis and Punjabis than you do and I know how they treat Bengalis and what they think of us, not that they will say it that much online so as not to appear non-PC or to look bad.

Even the Pakistani Pashtuns here such as Gadoonwal, BLS and others know what Pakistanis really think of Pashtuns.

I hope you go on to forum.pakistanidefence.com and write up a post like the one you did here complaining to:

Platinum786 (a moderator), who called for more massacres to have been carried out in 1971.

Rungroot, an ex-Pakistan military officer from Kakul, Pakistan's main military academy who said he wished a few more million Bengalis had been killed in 1971.

Writer84, who said the same thing.

Please go to your Pakistani brothers and tell them that.

                                10. Bangladesh defeated traitors like you in 1971 and we have our freedom now and are progressing day by day, sorry buddy, it must suck...but hey that's life.

I just had to quickly join coz I cudnt take this anymore
                                lol.

You seem like a one-hit wonder, who will come in, carry out a personal attack and then leave never to return.

I on the other hand am a regular member of this forum, a 3 year old member of Khyberwatch and moderator there which includes Pashtun patriots and activists who have been campaigning for Pashtun rights for decades, and someone who regularly presents a positive image of Bangladesh to the rest of the world whilst BBCD (British Born Confused Desi) kids like you will laugh at it and belittle it.

Sorry my friend, but Bangladesh is progressing and we do not need Pakistanis/BBCD "Bengalis" like you (whatever you actually are).

                                Bye and welcome to ignore.

                                Stop making lies about me.

KHAN I AZAM, Shaheed Baba Abdus Samad Khan Achakzai (rahmatullah 'aliaih) who supported Bengalis in the 1971 war.

Fakhr i Pakhtun, Padshah Khan (rahmatullahi 'alaih) a man who donated generously to the 1970 flood in East Pakistan which killed 1/2 a million people and which the Pakistani government in Islamabad was indifferent to. Padshah Khan (rahmatullahi 'alaih) also tried to stop the 1971 war from happening and reach a peaceful solution.

Wali Khan (rahmatullahi alaih), a Pashtun nationalist leader who was an ally of Mujib and along with his father Padshah Khan (rahmatullahi 'alaih) sought to resolve the 1971 crisis peacefully before the Pakistan army launched their genocide. Wali Khan led Pashtun nationalists out on the streets to protest the military operation, and Wali Khan himself rescued a Bengali diplomat's son from imprisonment.

Ajmal Khattak, (rahmatullahi 'alaih), a Pashtun nationalist and poet who wrote poems lamenting the tragedy of east Pakistan, Khattak's poems have been translated in to Bengali.

THREAD ABOUT AJMAL KHATTAK (RAHMATULLAHI ALAIH) ON KHYBERWATCH, THE HOME OF PASHTUNS ONLINE: http://www.khyberwatch.com/forums/sh...Poetry&p=89202

All four have died and are no longer with us, but their souls have been returned to whence they came. They were of a different era, with Padshah Khan, Wali Khan, Khan i Azam all spending long periods in imprisonment. They have gone and have made their mark, that we are reading about them even today, the torch has been passed on to a new generation who at the moment seem nowhere close to how they were.

I as a Muslim Bengali will never forget the courage of Padshah Khan (rahmatullahi 'alaih) and a du'a is more powerful than an atom bomb, and when I mention his name I do tarrahum every time.

Allah yarham Abdul Ghaffar wa Abdus Samad wa Abdul Wali wa Ajmal.

                                Ameen thumma Ameen.

Wa Allahumma sallee 'alaa ashraful makhlooqat, wa saadiqul ameen, habibuna wa sayyidina Muhammad.
