Thank you so much, Nick for a very interesting post. It is very interesting to know that.Originally posted by Nick View PostWelcome to the forum Kabul city is aright its huge and ugly populated, lol not ugly in a bad way but just large number of its population plus car and new comers form dai or country side specially from central and north provinces looking for job. The old population of Kabul has been replaced with new comers, and some few old residences are still there. Country side of Kabul and over all Kabul province I won't suggest you going wondering alone by yourself simply because its Kabul. Big NO. At least two more men be it if you have to hire them with gun, cause as soon as you are identified for money there are some people who would do anything.
By Racial defination in modern time in most provinces you are either an afghan calling yourself an "Afghan" or a non-Afghan. However Kabul city is most unique and very similar to 2 other major cities (Herat, Mazar) and but still different aside from its 35,000 Pakistani/15,000 irani workers and another 90,000 foreigner worker such as Chinese/Central Asian and foreign troops, in Kabul you would find 5 kind of different beautiful races. Dominated race is still Afghano by 60%, but another 40% would be divided between Turkic (Such as Uzbek), Irano-Turk (such as Tajikistani) Mongolid (such as Hazara) and Afghano-Turk (Are usually "mixed" such as Pashtun-Tajiki, Pashtun-Hazara, Pashtun-Uzbek). So if you find a familiar face of your best friend don't be surprised Kabul is already considered melting pot of the century new beautiful faces will be born in the next 10 years.
One more advice try to stay away from religious and political discussion. Kabul itself was once Sunni dominated but now things are getting ugly and Kabulis overall don't like religious discussions, politics like religion has also divided the muliti race people so you would find huge gap in between.
From city's bad neighbourhood or good neighbourhood Kabulis love joke, music, fun game and simply say comedy.

Oh that would be so good, Laila! Do you have addresses of those orphanages? Will they allow me to visit an orphanage?

Agree with you. My mission is particularly related with raising the skills of afghan specialists, so that they will not need an outside assistance in the future.Originally posted by faye View Posti am shocked that there are so many foreign workers in afghanistan, when so many afghans are available and need work.

Usually you have to talk to the orphanages ahead of time so that they are aware of your visit.

You have a big and kind heart. By the way we have these words in my language as well "sheer+in" is "sweet" and "yakh" is "butter". Is it what you meant?
Be sure, that I will abide your instructions and I will definitely remember you when I will be eating that kabab
yakh = cold. literally means cold milk... or frozen milk or ice cream. it is really tasty..

1. Wear appropriate clothing. A black turban will suffice. And keep facial hair with it.
2. Always always always involve yourself if you see an act of injustice. Whether an Afghan police officer abusing people, or American tanks forcing people off the road, always make it a point to involve yourself and express your opinions. The Afghan people love a man who is righteous.
3. You will come across a familiar face in photos across Kabul. It is of a bearded man with a Pakol. His appearance is rather goat like,. Make it a point to forcibly remove this picture from wherever you see it. It is a fun custom in Kabul, akin to easter egg hunting.
4. If anyone asks where you are from, simply say you are from Helmand or Qandahar. Those regions have a reputation for calm, peace and stability. You will be well received.

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I am back to my country. It was a good trip, indeed. Afghanistan is a country of wonderful and hospitable men. For me it was a unique experience. I was surprised that summer in Kabul is not hot as I expected to be.
Gulbabo, my brother, I had seekh kabab and must say it is so good. I liked SUFI restaurant so much. Thank you, Admin, for useful recommendations.
Thank you all, my dear friends, for advices
