Are you really Grozen? Or you just pick a fake identity to dig in here with your Pan-Iranism?Happy Ramadan everyone. ‫نشيد (زين الشهور) كااااملة || Zain Ramadan Nasheed-Full Version‬‎ - YouTube

Good ! It's nice that another Georgian came here.
There was earlier Ulfserker, who has vanished, but made
a lot of great contributions to our understanding of
the early Soviet times in Afghanistan -
Welcome -
are you Muslim or
Georgian Orthodox?
Don't feel afraid to say -- I put St Nina there
in case anyone was reading this who is Orthodox.

chedo,
some of these people are "out of it" -
I thought it was a bizarre parallel : when would a Georgian
be pro-Iran based on history, religion, etc.
Georgian Muslims are not Shias that I am aware of.
I could tell you were real because no non-Georgian
would have that very unique script or know the words.
So I thought to reach out, as Georgians themselves
are so hospitable that they deserve a kind welcome in return.
Tell me why you hate clerics - !!!
I am REALLY interested.
The only Georgian cleric I met was the very, very nice Archbishop Nicolosz , who was on a visit
to California venerate the relics of St John Maximovitch of Shanghai & SF - have you heard of him by any chance?
[You should ! He's a wonderful miracle-worker who can
help with healing especially.]
By the way, this Saint, who died recently, in 1966, was disappointed
with his fellow clerics too, so you could maybe relate to him...
Especially if you are in America, consider to visit his relics.
So where are you from in Georgia?
I'd like to ask a lot of questions -
though not to derail from your questions about Gurgin Khan.
Maybe someone here knows; I'm an American, so I have no clue about that.

I am not in America, I am living in Georgia. I am from Tbilisi. As for clerics - They are human beings, and human beings like shiny things and as we say in georgia - "gold makes attractive even gates of hell". I dont deny that there are wonderful, educated and very cleaver people among clerics, but not in big numbers so that's why i don't like them much. And no, i don't know archbishop Nicolosz.Originally posted by Catya Sher View Postchedo,

As for Georgian Muslims, they are mostly Shias but here in Tbilisi mosque Shias and Sunnites are praying together which is wonderful example of tolerance.Last edited by Guest; 07-20-2011, 05:36 AM.

Georgians are very tolerant people. In the center of Tbilisi, historic district of Meidan (also called Bath District) Georgian Orthodox Church, Armenian and Catholic churches, Jewish Synagogue and Muslim Mosque stand near each other and this gives us very good example of tolerance and multiculturalism. I am working on ethnic minority issues and I can assure you that racist behavior is not common in Georgia. Even after 2008 "August war" with Russia there were no tensions between Russians that live in Georgia and Georgians. Same goes to Kurds, they are very important part of Tbilisi history and culture. Then again I have to say that there are narrow minded people everywhere and time to time you can always hear something stupid from them in every countryOriginally posted by afghan View Postchedo i have heard racism is taking place in georgia. how is the situation with kurds and russians?
This is Meidan

you can see Mosque on the left side and Georgian church up in the Tbilisi citadel.
and here is general view of Bath District from a distance

Very pretty scenes,
and interesting information
What do you think of that August 2008 war, chedo ??
I was furious that Russia was so heavy-handed and aggressive.
Some observers think that Saakashvili provoked this -
what is your opinion?
Very nice though that the Russians residing in Georgia were
not mistreated. After all, it wasn't THEIR fault.
It's important to distinguish between actions of govts and
actions of individuals, and not hold the latter responsible
for things their govt or ethnic group had made severe errors over.
It's a sign of deep culture and civilization. Good for Georgia !

War is not a pretty thing. Even though it was very short war it had dire consequences for Georgia. As for Saakashvili - It is politicians duty to prevent the war and it is military's duty to fight it if it starts. When politicians decide that they know what is war and how to fight it, then everything is doomed. I do not know exactly if he provoked it, but I know for sure that he could prevent this war from happening and also it is absolutely certain right now that if he would listened to military this war could have been much less disgraceful for Georgia.Originally posted by Catya Sher View PostVery pretty scenes,

)I know Georgian of course, German, English, Czech, Russian and can understood couple of other Slavic languages. People right now are learning English rather than Russian, but basically everyone understands Russian. as for Muslims - around 10 % of citizens of Georgia are Muslims. Ethnically Georgians are Sunni Hanafi but there is Large Azerbaijani community in Georgia and they are Shia Ithna Ashariyah. Shias make majority of Muslims in Georgia.

we have discussed this with Ulfsreker(another gerogian on PF).
Afghans remember Gurgin as someone who got defeated at the hands of Mirwais Neeka and that Gurgin was a tyrant who would drink alcohol and oppress people and working for Persian shia safavids,The Afghan revolt was triggered when Gurgin was taxing people and it reached the boiling point when they tried to mess with Afghan woman.

Georgians and Azeris get along very well. Azeris mostly are living in rural region of Kvemo Kartli in Georgia, also in Tbilisi and other bigger towns. There are of course integration issues (in rural areas this is mostly language related, also Azeris do not participate very actively in political and social live of Georgia, but then again not even Georgians from rural areas are very active citizensOriginally posted by Nick View PostThanks for clearification, Czech and German you must have been to Czech Republic or something cause I know there are large number of Germans in Czech Republic as well as thought in school. ) For now there is a statewide action plan dealing with ethnic minority integration issues and it is more less successful. Also lots of NGO's in Georgia work on ethnic minority issues and hopefully long term effect of this actions will be very good.
