World's first farmers in Iran are ancestors of South Asians'

The earliest farmers from the Zagros mountains in Iran, are the ancestors of modern day South Asians, and not of Europeans as was earlier believed, a new study has found.

Sedentism, farming, and agriculture was invented some 10,000 years ago in a region between southeastern Anatolia, Iran, Iraq and Syria, an area traditionally labelled as the Fertile Crescent.

Most technology and culture linked to farming including domestic sheep, goat, cattle and pig originated here.

Researchers from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) in Germany showed that the earliest farmers from the eastern part of the Fertile Crescent, are neither the main ancestors of Europe's first farmers nor of modern-day Europeans.

"Our team had only recently shown that early farmers from across Europe have an almost unbroken trail of ancestry leading back to northwest Anatolia," said Farnaz Broushaki, member of the JGU Palaeogenetics Group.
"But now it seems that the chain of migration into Europe breaks somewhere in eastern Anatolia," said Broushaki.

According to previous study, Neolithic settlers from northern Greece and the Marmara Sea region of western Turkey reached central Europe via a Balkan route and the Iberian Peninsula via a Mediterranean route.

These colonists brought sedentary life, agriculture, and domestic animals and plants to Europe.

New research shows that some of the world's earliest farmers from Iran were a genetically distinct group and only very distantly related to the first farmers of western Anatolia and Europe.

"It is interesting that people who are genetically so different, who almost certainly looked different and spoke different languages adopted the agricultural lifestyle almost simultaneously in different parts of Anatolia and the Near East," said Joachim Burger, senior author of the study.

"The group of prehistoric inhabitants of the Zagros region separated more than 50,000 years ago from other people of Eurasia and were among the first who invented farming," Burger said.

While sharing many segments of their genome with Afghani and Pakistani populations, the almost 10,000 year old genomes from the Iranian Zagros mountains were found to be most similar to modern-day Zoroastrians from Iran.

"This religious group probably mixed less with later waves of people than others in the region and therefore preserved more of that ancient ancestry," said Broushaki.

It is like at least two highly divergent groups became the world's first farmers - the Zagros people of the Neolithic eastern Fertile Crescent that are ancestral to most modern South Asians and the Aegeans that colonised Europe some 8,000 years ago.

"The origin of farming was genetically more complex than we thought and instead of speaking of a single Neolithic centre, we should start adopting the idea of a Federal Neolithic Core Zone," said Burger.

This is the latest news, basically the people living near the Zagros mountains in Iran were one of the first farmers in the world around 10000 years ago, and they were the ancestors of today's Pakistanis, Afghans, Indians and Iranians

If anyone knows about genetics, these people were the (ANI), which make more then half of south asian ancestry, and up to 80% of Pashtun ancestry

South Asian people descend from two major populations, ANI and ASI, ANI are these people and ASI were similar to the Andamanese (Andaman Islanders)

Iranians of today are more mixed with other populations from West Asia, while Indians are more mixed with ancient ASI, but still we all share significant ancestry.

I don't agree because the ancient People of Pakistan or IVC never accepted foreigners making Pakistanis the only surviving true indigenous People of this region.

Indians and Irani People are foreign to their respective land.

If people living in Zagros were first farmers then why their component peak in Pakistani Dravidian Brahui? Its clear Pakistanis went to Iran to teach them farming.

You do realise that if you think Porkistanis are native to the region, your dreams of being descendants of "Persians, Afghans, Arabs, Turks" will be invalid, right?

            Past tense.

Why a Pakistani in his right mind would even think of being related to Persians and Arabs?Afghan today is seen as a nationality in Pakistan and mostly people look down upon them.

Majority of the Pakistanis are heirs to the 2nd oldest documented civilization on earth(sometime regard as the oldest).

Our future is secure,we are en route to one of the biggest economy in the world that would dwarf the likes of Iran or turkey.

Who are you?a runaway kid from his country living under white people taxed paid money after giving your posterior to people to get asylum in the west.Even the dogs in our streets are more ghairati than you.

If Afghans are looked down upon, why do Porkistanis so desperately want to claim descendants from them?

Heirs? Give me one source that even mentions "Porkistan" before the 20th century. Deep down you know that Porkistan is a fake, artificial country. Remove the goat semen from your face and take a look at reality.

So do you live in Porkistan? Or are you also one of those "runaway kids"? Wouldn't be too surprised if you've worked in heera mandi or are part of the Porkistani sexual grooming gangs.

IVC is 5000-6000 years old, this is around 10000 years ago. It is thought, descendants of these people probably started the IVC

because these people moved east wards towards south asia, there are many theories about the Brahui, they could be a ancient relic population, related to these people from Zagros.

We are also related to Nigerians and North Europeans...so whats the point? 99% of Pakis and Indians are too south asian/australoid looking for there to ever exist any feelings of relatedness... People relate more to people who look similar to themselves (survival mechanism). Just the way (human) nature works.

From South Asia, Bollywood type Indians and pakis are obviously most related to Iranians and Afghans.

I am talking about genetics, not looks

also the reason Indian/Pakistanis look different is because we have much more of the (ASI) component in our genes, which is related to the Andaman Islanders, and to a degree to Papuans, Australian abroginals, and Pacfic islanders. Iranians for example have almost 0% of ASI in them and Afghans only a little

I personally think it is very neat, that Indian/Pakistanis have this component, because it is a very unique/Exotic component

Pakistanis and Afghans on a whole look pretty similar except that Afghans might be a shade lighter. If Pakistanis have Australoid admixture then Afghans also have East Asian admixture in shape of Hazaras/Usbeks/Turkmans etc. Both these elements are negligible though. On a whole any Pakistani can pass for an Afghan and vice versa.

it depends which pakistanis. Punjab/Sindh are still heavily caste based societies, the many lower castes of these provinces probably have much more ASI in them, The upper castes and the ones of who married Pashtuns over the years are more related to Afghans/Iranians, but still there is a clear genetic difference too between Pakistanis and Afghans

Ancestors of Pakistanis/dravidian Brahui moved west to teach them farming. Otherwise ancient Zagros samples will be closest to Iranians but instead they are closest to Brahui.
