what percentage of Pakistanis are decedents of the Mughals

most of the Mughals migrated from central asia and settled in India and over time intermarried with Indians like rajputs

like how Mongolians intermarried and over generations became more and more turk

explains why mongal Genghis khan has 16 million decendents yet their are only ten million mongols now

what percentage of Pakistanis are Mughals and what type of surnames do they carry to show they are decendents of mughals

• #2
Less then 5% at best

Remember that mughal armies themselves were smaller compared to amount of people living in the subcontinent. Even mughal kings themselves were (Indians) basically, except maybe the first few kings

Less than 5%, the descendants of these Turkic Mughals have surnams such as Qidwai,Pasha,Chugtai and Mughal but they're all mixed and only have distant Turkic lineage Karachi

mainstream Pakistani food brought by North Indian migrants to Pakistan after partition is Mughalai cuisine, also Urdu-speaking Pathans of Rohilakhand and Shahjahanpur brought their cuisine.

Mughals are largely mixed Turks; in Pakistan I remember they were famous for being blacksmiths. Not much of Pakistan's population are Mughal, but then again Pakistan is a very ethnically diverse country.

Mughals dont exist. This is the generic name that Indians applied to the Turks and other foreigners (mostly Persians/Tajiks) that ruled them without distinguishing between these different ethnic groups. Probably by Akbar's time the word Mughal became a common slang term used by Indians. But so-called "Mughals" never called themselves that. It is a Persian word that means Mongol and Indians may have used it disparagingly for their rulers. The word was later adopted by the British and other powers, and that is why it sticks today when talking about Babur's dynasty.

Turks didnt settle in India. Even in cities that the Mughals founded themselves and built from scratch like Fatehpur Sikri the people that inhabited these places were natives.

Mughals were always on the move, travelling in a mobile court, something resembling a tent city. When Nader Shah invaded India, the mobile court of the Mughals was estimated to be as high as 3 million, but by that time very few Turks actually still remained in it.

After leaving the Mughal army Turks serving in it are known to have usually left the subcontinent, same too with the Tajiks/Persians. Turks in particular are recorded to have hated the subcontinent.

After Akbar's reign, the flow of Turkic migrants slowed down. By Aurangzeb's time the flow of Turks and Persians (Sunni Tajiks mainly but also Shi'a Iranians) to work in the Mughal court is said to have almost stopped with most returning to their homelands. That is why after Aurangzeb the Mughal court and army became overwhelmingly Indian and the vernacular of the servants and soldiers in the court became Urdu.

Pakistanis and Indians claiming Mughal descent with fake family names like "Mughal" or "Chagatai" are just former Hindu low-castes that invented new ancestors for themselves after converting to Islam because Hindu society still treated them as low castes even though they had left the Hindu fold to become Muslim.

Mughals never called themselves by this word so it is absolutely ridiculous that some Pakis and Indians out there say that their family name is "Mughal"

Read for youself in the Baburnama who the "Mughals" were. They were Mongolians living to the east of Fergana. Babur very clearly talks about the "Mughals" being a different people from the "Turks" and "Mughalistan" being a separate country from his native homeland.

thanx gypsy baloch, no matter how many times u clean ur face in one day ..u will still be a gypsy,if u havent seen the pics of the proved direct descendants of mughals u wudnt write this crap... direct descendants of mughals can be seen in these links, they look more dark then 90 percent of pakistanis but still they are proved direct descendants of mughal emperors not armies. chagtai and mughal are turkic in ancestry.. like baloch are gypsy in ancestry
The story of middle-aged Sultana Begum is heart-wrenching. Her husband Mirza Bedar Bakht, the great grandson of last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, died in penury.

if these people can be turks in ancestry but look dark then why cant chagtais being fair claim turkish ancestry.. i have seen many dark pashtuns which means they are nt pashtuns, ziauddin yusfzai one of them malala one of them
Except for some muhajirs of karachi like karachi :P and some balochs from makran who can either claim african or south indian ancestry

5 percent is very less, do u think that mughal males only married not females, u can imagine that akbars wife was hindu so was jehangirs , sikandar lodhis mother was a hindu, tughluqs mother was a hindu, etc(these are just royals what can u expect from the army) do u think only mughal turks ruled this region, there were many other turks who ruled todays afghanistan pakistan india. this is why u can find all sort of complexions amongst pakistanis indians afghans. the only thing that went rong is that all these royal turks were part of those turkic federations which are extinct now example llbari tuks, kipchaks, chagtais , karaluks etc, and there is no way to compare present descendants with their true ancestry. now adays turks are turkish, uzbeks, turkmen who have remained entirely silent throughout history while the extinct ones ruled, ottomans did rule but present turkish are mixed of ottomans and anatolians i guess.

Porkis has always been the slaves/conquered people. They never ever were in high status line ever in their past history. I mean I talk about records going back 5000-10 000 BC at least.

No pakistanis dont ve this disease of calling themselves mughal or turks etc...Pakistan have many ethnicities which is clear evident from their culture, language and practices. The claim of mughal is found in minority ....but then thats true.In india hyderabad has many.Chugtai is one famous group..Mughal is word derived from mongols...they did marry locals and gave rise to urdu language.
Some are rich today some poor. When their empire was to be finished...their women were attacked by hindu women who were pulling ears etc taking jewlry from thwm. They were literally pulling them from hair...such was the bad treatment they received at hands of people whom they ruled. Some fled some died...
