My friend, signing a treaty doesnt mean loyalty. Loyalty is to a master or a friend. In this case it was neither. It was an agreement to attain mutual gains and to prevent any conflict over the trans-Satluj areas.

I do agree with latter half of your post. It does seem that Ranjit Singh and the British had enemity with the Afghans. But there was a substantial difference. Ranjit Singh was content with pushing out Abdali's governors and other Afghans from the greater Punjab area. He didnt venture out into the core Afghan areas beyond Khyber and was satisfied with getting back the greater Punjab areas. The British on the other hand had more imperialistic ambitions and wanted to control Afghanistan.

^ Well, some Afghans do make strange comments regarding Sikhs, but hardly any Afghan knows much about a Sikh from other countries rather than Afghanistan so we can't say what majority of Afghans think of them. However, Sikhs of Afghanistan are very highly respected and I haven't ever heard of any Afghan speaking against Afghan Sikhs. Our family friends are Sikhs from Afghanistan and pretty much entire Afghan community in Southall knows them and respects them. My own family very deeply regrets the fact thousands and thousands of Sikhs left Afghanistan during all those wars, because festivals organized by the Sikhs were said to be the most fun festivals held in Afghanistan, where every race and religion used to take part in.

^ No, you were talking of Indian and Pakistani Punjabis; Bhagat Singh was one of them, if not a Sikh by religion. My point is made.
