im reading a book right now called the wars of afghanistan by peter tomsen, in it he writes that the the white huns have affected the pashtuns geneticly and culturely he doesnt provide much proof he only says because of words like ulus(people) and khan and that our pashtunwali closly matches their honour code, but the author then goes on to say that kandahar is a scewed version of alexander. thoughts?

Ulus and Khan are also Turkic words. The Hephtalites had Iranic affinities with Turkic admixture. Not sure about their honor code; I didn't know there was so much information about their culture. From other historians we know that some worshipped the sun, others worshipped local deities, and others still became Hindus. They practiced polyandry which Pashtuns obviously do not do. Though there is a strange hint of Polyandry in Pashtun culture.

I'm not sure if any of you have heard this, but Hephtalites brothers would marry one woman. I know among some tribal Pashtuns and even urban Pashtuns, if a woman is young and her husband dies, they first offer to marry her to one her husbands brothers.

That's not enough to support the polyandry claim. That is a practice in many groups in particular Muslims because of the namus concept. We Pashtun are not big on sharing with siblings, how can we even imagine sharing a wife? The reason why the widow is asked to marry her brotherinlaw is because of ghairaat. The thought that your brothers wife would be in bed with another is unbearable. It is considered a peghor.

So, if there's a huge rock in Swat with Israeli writing on it then that means Pashtuns are Israelis? How is this evidence, :S?

How many other Muslim groups practice this kind of ghairat?

all those who wholeheartly try to cover this fact of Pashtun history and want badly to connect themselves with white people have no sane argument.

if you have bring it forth.

i see midnight sun is on a mission to keep us ignorant which will nto work since all the evidences are against his theory.

I don't care about being related to ''white'' people or ''non-white'' people. I'm just saying evidence must be put forth to kill myths. Nearly everyone in the world may have some Jewish ancestry, since Jews have been in history for thousands of years. You claim that Solaiman/Solomon could have flew some of his tribes to the present day Afghanistan. But, let's be logical. Just because we have some cultural aspects that are similar to Jewish customs doesn't mean much in the face of Science. Afghanistan is an area that probably had many different people living side by side, we probably absorbed some Jews and now we have some customs that are similar to Jewish customs. But take note, these customs aren't shown in every single tribe. Customs tend to change tribe by tribe. So, perhaps, some Pashtuns do have Jewish ancestry, but I believe Pashtuns don't all have one common ancestor, but rather they're a production of several nations forging together over hundreds of years and forming one identity. Also, genetic evidence and DNA tests up until now have shown that Pashtuns are very closely related to other Iranics.

I absolutely agree Pashthana. A claim should be backed by a fact from history, anthropology, DNA, archaeology, linguistics, etc. You cannot just go on and make vain claims.

It is practiced among Arabs and Africans too, and is a known practice among Jews as is mandated by the Torah to marry your brothers widow. Look up levirate marriage.
