how can he be an Afghan (Pashtun) when he descibed them from the eyes of a Central Asian? Afghans lived them mostly around the Sulaiman Mountains. Modern Afghanistan is a young state and it´s boundaries are created. He was a Tajik, from Choresmia, today Khiva, Uzbekistan. Ab

He wrote that they have an own culture close to the modern people of Nuristan. Take in mind that modern Pashtuns are not the same Pashtuns of ancient times. We have adoptet many non-Pashtuns, turned to Islam, created an own identity and so on. Al Biruni had nowhere mentioned the word ''Pashtun'' or ''Pashtunvali''. I strongly doubt that Pashtunvali existed then.
If Pashtuns and other "Afghans" were all pagans at that time, then why were those large Buddhist statues there?

Al Biruni wasn't an Afghan (pashtun), he was born in khwarazem now split between uzbekistan and turkmenistan. his works are mainly in arabic and persian but that doesn't make him arab or persian. he should be referred to as an islamic scholar from khorasan who was khwarazmian.

ok his father was from Balkh but still that doesn't make him ethnic Afghan(pashtun). His father was a tajik (persian) from balkh. So he belongs to the whole muslim world in deen but to the persians and tajiks by ethnicity. Afghans put him on stamp because we have 50% farsi speakers in our country who he is related to. All persian personalities of the past can be celebrated by Afghanistan because Afghanistan along with Iran and Tajikistan is the legitimate heir to the old persian culture and civilization.

i agree but i didnt see anyone call him tajik and arabs when they say afghan they mean pashtun. but yeah i dont think he is pashtun and thats why i didnt say he is pashtun i said he is afghan but if they dont call tajiks and the rest in afghanistan afghans then yeah he is not an afghan.:D

and its not a big deal if its going this way cuz thats would be like saying those tajiks and uzbaks are NOT afghans.
