It's very obvious they did: Islamic conquest of Afghanistan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's how Islam came to the region

Also there might have been other empires that also did, let me research

Karachi is right.I would give one example. I was reading Babur-nama, mughals came to afghanistan as outsiders after they were expelled by uzbeks from their homelands, they conquored whole present day Afghanistan under babur. But Afghanistan was just sands, stones and mountains, so mughals real target was a rich country india.

All the invaders bypassed afghanistan and attacked india for loot. They were not interested in looting dry barren stony country, those who came in their way, got killed. Even alexander the great goal was india, not afghanistan...British invaded afghanistan to teach afghans a lesson, they were not interested in occupying afghanistan. They decided to keep it as a buffer state even though they were in full position to occupy it..they sent comparitively small forces to afghanistan. But if you take example of tipu sultan's mysore, british contineously attacked it for three four decades with lakhs of forces as mysore was richest and most developed state in subcontinent at that time.

I think your research will show that Afghanistan historically was conquered often and outsiders came and ruled over this land for most of its history. Even today, lets be realistic, the Americans can wipe out every living thing in Afghanistan if they wanted to within a few months, but thankfully their own public would not let them do that.
