What do you think about maharaja Ranjit Singh ji ?
he seems to be a sikh
and was a liar as we can see he could have never come close to kandahar.
its just sikhs exageration
No knowledgeable Sikh or neutral historian would say MRS ever came close to Kandahar. Though his army under Nalwa's command crossed the Indus and won decisive battles near Peshawar and Attock, that area was loosely controlled and only held for a small time. What his armies did manage effectively though was push the Pahstun dominance in Punjab beyond the Indus. You see Abdali had installed various Pashtun governors and chief in the Punjab plains, most prominent being the one in Lahore, as he often returned to quell domestic disturbances. It were these governors and their local agents that MRS fought most of his battles near the Indus.
And beyond doubt, MRS wielded influence beyond the Indus. Or other wise he wouldn't have grasped the Kohinoor from the Afghan heir.
So he only kicked out pathans from punjab, and conquered Peshawar and the plains of east-Afghanistan ? Am I right ?
Maharaja ranjit singh pathans raje ko bhar nikalea, phir usne, east Afghanistan me raaj kya tha ? Tujko pata hai ya usne waziristan ya Kandahar me vi raaj kya tha ?
Hum ko pata nahi hai, hum sirf internet me parea tha, maybe ye sikhs historians ne likha tha ?
Anyway, hum sab ko patha hai ke RANJIT ne Peshawar me raaj kya.
Luffy, why you always defend punjabis ? Are you punjabi ? Have you got punjabis origins ? Do you live in punjab ? Do you have punjabis friends ? Lol
Tum rooj punjabyo ko defend karta hai yaar, kaha rehte ho ?
Hum ko pata hai ke tum pashtun/pathan hai, but tum punjabis ko itna defend kyon karte hai ?
Hum vi kabhi defend karta hai, par tum rooj defend karta lol
Graveyard you speak a very good urdu .
Khalsawarrior, tujko urdu ya hindi ati hai ?
I am am sure you know that both languages have their roots in Hindustani which was developed by Mughal soldiers in the military cantonments around Delhi as a mix of various local languages with loan words from Persian. Hindustani was more Persianized by the Muslim folks of the sub-continet, especially of Delhi and Awadh and thus known as Urdu. On the other hand, Hindi, the language of most Hindus of North India uses loan words from Sanskrit. Therein lies the difference between the two sister languages
And yes, you are right.Kandahar was too far for MRS and so was Kabul valley. And I dont even think these places were ever in his conquest plans. He was content with Indus as the border between him and the Pashtun tribes, with the Afridis being in most proximity. His expansion beyond Punjab was towards the North-east - Kashmir and the Hill states of Kangra.
It's true that as Pashtuns, we see him as our enemy. However, that does not mean that he was not perhaps the greatest son of Punjab. No other Punjabi can match his achievements. And contrary to what Pakistani history books teach, Ranjit Singh's empire was secular and his armies consisted of many Pashtuns, Europeans and others, who fought alongside the mainly Punjabi divisions.
That doesn't mean his generals were not cruel and vengeful. But as a man, he had great abilities and his successors were not even half as gifted as him. What I find ironic is that it was Ahmed Shah Baba, a general of Nadir Shah's army, who took advantage of the weaknesses of his superiors and established his own empire and similarly, Ranjit Singh was a subject of the Durrani Empire before he took Peshawar from them.
In fact, during Syed Ahmed Barelvi's "Jihad" in Peshawar, the Yousafzai sardars sided with the Sikhs against the Mujahideen. So things are not as simple as the two-nation theory and Musalman Musalman bhai bhai, baaqi sab kafir dushman.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".
Well said, LZ. And as you said, the situation can be reversed - just as Ahmad Shah Abdali is a hero for Pashtuns who united the warring factions and formed a huge Afghan empire; so did MRS for the Punjabis, half a century later.
Exactly levanaye, MRS is the only great punjabi emperor in history, that's why punjabis consider him like a great hero
For us, he was our ennemy, logically,
And yes, he was absolutely secular ( thanks god ) and he didn't forced pashtuns or musalman panjabis to convert to sikhism , that's a good point, he wasn't extremist like some mughals / afghan emperors.
@Wazir - The secularism of MRS and his Khalsa army was not so surprising if you consider the political context of the Punjab of those days. Sikhs, though the dominant military power, were not numerologically superior to the Punjabi Muslims. In fact their numbers were lower than both the Muslims and the Hindus. So it served MRS interests to project an image of secularism as it helped him control the local populations. In fact, MRS artillery was predominantly Punjabi Muslim with one Mian Ghausa being the chief gunner.
Even from a religious context, Sikhism was founded on the two basic tenets of unity of God and equality of men irrespective of caste or religion. So it made sense to be secular. And moreover MRS never really ruled in his own name, he used the name of the Sri Khalsa or the Sikh religious order in his coins and official documents
LOL
what a load os BS version of the history.
yes he attacked pashtuns and captured some areas but that does not mean he ruled pashtuns,he probably couldnt walk aroudn freely.
and all up sudden now ranjeeth singh has become a seculer massiah lol.
just cuz he was supported by some corrupt muslims and others doesnt mean he was some noble person.
Ahmad shah Abdali also let sikhs for the first time in history come out of hindu oppression,so we can than say than Ahmad shah abdali was back stabbed by these sikhs?
LOL

GoE..why dont you back up whatever you say with sources and logical comments rather than spout illiterate street talk like "he couldnt walk freely"!
Read up and then talk. Thats my only advice to you. If you continue to post rants like the one you did above, please have this thread at your disposal. I have got better things to do than to educate you.
