I am not sure about Waziristan. Can you tell me about the major towns/forts in Waziristan? I can search in other sources as I didnt find a mention in Cunningham's book. It does say that the Barakzai governor an area near Peshawar was defeated.Originally posted by Wazir_Warrior View PostHe ruled Waziristan ? I Heard That his army came to miran shah

I don't contest that pashtuns are defeatable. Pashtuns are human just like the rest, of course they have been defeated. I am talking about historical facts here. Besides that fake map on Wikipedia there is no historical record that sikhs ruled over pashtun hill tribes in areas such as waziristan, swat, dir, kurram and khyber. The fact is that sikhs only ruled the plains and a captured a few major highway, one of them being the khyber pass. For anyone to claim that sikhs ruled the tribal areas, they must bring historical evidence to support their claim. Many invaders have come to Afghanistan and captured major cities and towns but majority of Afghans live in rural areas and don't pay tax.Originally posted by KhalsaWarrior View PostSeems like its very hard for you to imagine the Pashtun tribes defeated by MRS army. In most battles with the Afghans beginning 1813 til 1837, the Afghans were at the receiving end. You can call this an anomaly or the simple fact was that the Pashtun tribes were divided and the Sikh army too well trained for them. And I must add, the term Sikh Army is a misnomer in itself. It included Punjabi Hindus and Muslims, as well as Pashtun mercenaries from the plains. The chief artillery officer was one Mian Ghausa or Ghaus Muhammed. The army included many European adventurers and ex-soldiers like Ventura, Gardner who rose to the ranks of colonel and contributed heavily in terms of modernization of the army.
For a neutral and of the most well know account you can read Cunningham's book - The Sikhs. Here's an e-book link.
I didn't find mention of waziristan in that book nor other tribal areas. maybe i need to find some other source.
BTW, I don't consider british/english sources to be neutral. You only have to read their account of pashtuns to realize how biased and bigoted they are. Its like asking isrealis about palestinians and vice versa.

I also think he didn't conquer Wazristan, I know he did conquer Dera Ismail Khan, maybe a bit of region west of the city, but I seriously doubt he conquered mountains of Wazristan, there is no sign of sikh presence there if am not mistaking, he clearly conquered cities like Peshawar, because Peshawar still has a huge Sikh population

Ranjit Singh the leader of the Punjabis like Luffy
was able to hold onto to the main route upto Jamrud. But as for, the rural/interior Pukhtunkhwa, he and his army couldn't step foot there. At that time, it wasn't easy controlling the Pukhtun heartland. And Pashtuns didn't have any intresest in capturing the main route.
You would see a lot of Punjabis bragging about Ranjit Singh's capturing Pashtun Land. And to comfort themselves in these feelings, they brag to have captured Kabul as well---The fact is their best general Hari Singh Nalwa is burried deep at Jamrud killed at the hands of Pashtuns.Last edited by Toramana; 11-18-2011, 04:53 PM.

Please check non-Sinkh history as well---If the sophisticated British couldn't capture and effectively control Pashtun heartland, how crude Ranjit Singh and his handful of rural Jats like LuffycouldOriginally posted by KhalsaWarrior View PostI am not sure about Waziristan. Toramana, there's no bias in my post. As I said I aint sure about Waziristan. Yes, Jamrud was captured untill Nalwa was killed and so were a few other agencies closest to the mountains. True he never reached the Pashtun heartlands but a man can do only so much in his lifetime.Originally posted by Toramana View PostPlease check non-Sinkh history as well---If the sophisticated British couldn't capture and effectively control Pashtun heartland, how crude Ranjit Singh and his handful of rural Jats like Luffycould

You should try and understand why Punjabis hold MRS in high esteem. Go back till 3000 years and never had somebody started from the plains and harassed the hill tribes in an order which was in reverse to the trend seen uptill then. The people of the plains were used to being pillaged, looted and ruled by north western invaders. Not to say that MRS was a saint and his armies didnt inflict the sort of brutality on the vanquished. It was kind of a 'payback' time, albeit only for 30 odd years.
