What i think he meant was that 35 + 15 equals the 50 in the original post. He subtracted the 35 since they are Pakistanis. Ignore the 'blood runs in our veins' people, that might be the case for a few, just concentrate on the linguistic Pakhtuns. Without a census no one can be sure.

      According to the Pakistani government,

Also, according to various sources[which I can provide] over 50percent of Afghanistan is Pashtun.

And why would he or anyone subtract 35 since they are Pakistani? Just because a Pashtun happens to live in the other side of Durrand, doesn't mean they aren't Pashtun. What kind of an absurd, self-contradicting theory is that?

One can be born in Canada, and still be a Pashtun/Afghan*.

*Persian word for Pashtun. It means the same thing.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

        Thanks, i have corrected it.

30 or 35 million Pashto speakers in Pakistan are not Pashtuns in the eye of PFers, ofcourse i consider myself Pashtun. In the e-world of Afghans it is agreed upon that those Pashto speakers who associate themselves with Pakistan, not Afghanistan, are not real Pashtuns.......they are bloody traitors.

Yeah, I was gonna explain it like that, too. That's obviously what he meant, but folks refuse to give it some thought because it's not what they'd like to hear. You know we don't like opposing viewpoints; they disturb us.

Bottom line: We don't know what the population of Pukhtuns is because no one keeps track. We're never gonna know. The whole "they're at least 50 million" needs verification. Why should I believe that instead of the "they're around 30 million" or "They're around 70 million"?

Most importantly, though, why does it matter? So what that we might be 70 million? What's in a number, especially at a time like our current situation? Stand up and do something positive for Pukhtuns and the world, and THEN the world will notice that you actually exist! And only then, maybe, people will start caring about the population of your people. Until then, it doesn't matter if you're 20 million or 100 million.

If a PF member has said such a thing, he or she is wrong for making up such an assumption. Pashtuns of Pakistan are just as Pashtun as the Pashtuns of Afghanistan. I am from Afghanistan, and I gladly embrace you as a Pashtun brother Luffy.

There are few things you either missed, or perhaps you failed to understood about Luffys post.

Let me help you out on this one.

1)We obviously have an estimate of the Pashtun population because the majority of Pashtuns live in Pakistan, and in Pakistan they have conducted a census!
2)According to many sources, Pashtuns are the majority of Afghanistan. If Afghanistans population is ~approximately 30 million, Pashtuns are at least 13 million. We obviously do not have an exact number, but we can easily estimate our ethnic population[like the CIA factbook already has].

Also, one more thing I wanted to mention.

The discussion has transitioned into "If Pashtuns of Pakistan can be considered Pashtun" after Luffys transitional post. That's all to it.

Why does population matter? Ouch. Well, because it tells us a lot about our society. Of course it matters if you are either 20milion or 100 million. It helps us understand if we need more hospitals, more schools, or more organizations, etc. In fact, I believe Pakistan distributes it's aid based on population. Punjab has been getting the lion share because of it's population. Obviously we need to focus on education, I mean, that is common sense but in order to really produce a strong society, we need to know our population. There is a reason why in America, we have a census every decade. The latest one just passed last year. We shouldn't brush off the importance of population. It's extremely important that we properly estimate the population of a city like Peshawar. We have to make sure we have enough institutions for the rising population.

Our very own Esapxai recently made a thread on how Pashtunkhwa witnesses discrimination because it has a low population. I hope you now understand the importance of population. And why it matters, and should matter.

Unknown Prince, I didn't ask about the Pashtun civilians who have been killed, or this failing war or even the Tajiks who are against this war. I'm very well aware of your opinions on these matters.

I asked you 4-5 other questions in regards to your contention in the post qouted, you didn't answer my question.

I ask the most important question again:

How do you intelluctually reconcille your belief of 'I'm all Muslim first' with your notion of 'reclaiming' land in Afghanistan on the basis of ethnicity?

How do you reconcille your belief of "I'm a Muslim first' with your comment in the other topic to Obaid where you stated 'be a Pashtun not a Tajik'?

I hope you answer my questions.

^ khidr you accuse him of having ethnically motivated intentions, that does not mean he does.

by reclaiming afghan land, afghanistan would have access to the sea ports for foreign trade, benefiting economically. moreover, it offers the opportunity to make us stronger and more united as a people and prevent bullying from every front.
