  • Pashtun population...50 millions?

    I found these latest figures here.

    9,590,000 in Pakistan (1993). Includes all Pashto varieties. Population total all countries: 9,720,700. Ethnic population: 49,529,000 possibly total Pashto in all countries.

    We are easily over 50million.
    Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

    A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

    For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

    The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

              I think total Pashtun population is around 15 million. 35 millions of Pashto speakers in Pakistan can not be counted as pashtuns as they associate themselves with Pakistan.

                the description written there in doesn't make any sense

                logical breakdown:

                In Pakistan --> 9,590,000

                ALL countries---> 9,720,700

                "Possibly" in ALL countries ---> 49,528,000???

                That's HUGE margin of error.

                I would figure someone who embraces science as the 'highest form of knowledge" to be more apt on these things.

                        Luffy,

                        You might want to read what you wrote.

                        Hint:
                        Population of Pakistan.

                            And even if he meant "35" million, his conclusion is still inaccurate. The Pashtun population is at least over 40million, and if we include all those Pakistanis who swear they have Pashtun(Afghan)blood running through their veins, then we are quite comfortably over 100million. Nearly everybody you meet in Karachi claims he or she is a "Pathan" and how their "nana" is from Afghanistan.

                            He starts off by saying our total population is 15 million, and later begins speaking of 350million Pakistanis.
