    The reason that they wont allow any of there women to marry any none saudi is because they think they are superior to other arabs.

    I visited saudi and really hate the attitude of the arabs, really backwards people.

      I would like to know what Pukhtoon men here mean by 'Pukhtunwali respects and honors women', because as far as I know, respect and honor means respecting people's freedom and choices; Including women.

        It depends on what you mean by "choices" and "freedom". What the expressions of said "freedom" and "choices" ares.

        Respect and honor should be earned, not given. Should you respect your abusive father, husband, or promiscuous mother and wife? Should you honor them? Your choices can either earn you respect and honor, or strip you from it. Pukhtoon males and females are equally responsible for upholding the principles and virtues of their heritage. The restrictions and limitations that one might feel as a Pukhtoon, are equally applicable to both genders. The more "freedom" Pukhtoon men enjoy, eventually, the more "freedom" Pukhtoon women will enjoy.

        In societies where people have challenged the collective principles of their communities, the social structure and family fabric is failing incredibly. The powers to be that promote "independence" from one parents and family in these societies rarely practice such beliefs amongst themselves. You will notice that within all such societies, the elite and the powerful have strenuous rules for their members. If one is to cross the line, they are excommunicated. While dividing and ruling the sheep, they keep close knit communities, enjoy majority of the wealth and power amongst them. You are not invited, regardless of your race, religion or nationality. Their social class, has rules and prerequisites. That is what keeps them in their position and gives them their status. They call it "networking", we call it "family" (or tribe).

        Amongst Pukhtoons, Pukhto (Pukhtoonwale), encompasses all the rules and regulations of their "close knit family" that have given them the strength to exist this far against incredible odds. If they were not firm with their principles, they would have been history by now. No one survived what they have without a strong sense of community and values.

        Personally, I believe choice and the concept of "individual freedom" is an illusion. From the day you are born, till the day you die, everything about you has manifested due to external forces. How you eat, think, sleep, walk, talk and even how you poop...and what you do afterwards...all have been acquired from existing knowledge and practices. The game is set, the rules are in place, you just play along....what freedom? Maybe when you are dead.

          Wrayun,

          You are partially correct wrt to S. Arabia. However I will point out that the largest Muslim countries in the world: Indonesia and Bangladesh give much more rights to their women than Arabs do. Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries in the world.

          IMHO, Liberalism--> Prosperity and women's rights, rather than
          Prosperity--> Women's rights and liberalism.

                This is the main point.

                Otoh, in a war, when a country is under occupation or in constant warfare, it is not wise as a woman to be roaming around while opposition troops are around. I'm sure this must have been true of the American Civil War.

                However, in peacetime and with some national security, the above becomes very true. If women dont have freedom and choice and it is based in Pashtunwali, then Pashtunwali doesn't respect women. I don't believe it's the case by the way.
