PESHAWAR: Nishtar Hall will be made a hub of cultural activities in which cultural related programmes would be held every week. The schools’ students would participate in debate, dramas and poetry competitions and the position holders would be awarded with prizes. The decision in this effect was taken in a meeting convened to deliberate over reviving positive cultural activities in the whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The meeting was chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Syed Aqil Shah. The meeting decided to shift the office of Director Culture from the rented building to the Guest House of Nishtar Hall and pay the rent to the Nishtar Hall administration. The meeting also deliberated over making yardsticks for selection of renowned but financially weak artists of fine arts and decided that a committee including members of ministry of culture, media and fine arts would select the deserving artists, writers, poets and drama writers for financial assistance and recommend their names for the provision of one time stipend in recognition of their services. It was told in the meeting that a cultural conference would soon be held in Peshawar wherein all renowned artists would be invited. The views of the participants would be recorded word-by-word, short and long-term schemes for preserving the culture of the province would be made in light of these views. All the activities of the cultural conference would be directly scrutinized by Secretary Culture himself.
